MusclePharm reformulates and relaunches Re-Con product

BY Michael Johnsen

DENVER — MusclePharm announced Thursday that it has reformulated and relaunched its popular Re-Con product. The new and improved Re-Con is available as part of the company's Sports Series.

"As one of the only sports nutrition companies able and committed to conducting primary research, MusclePharm is uniquely positioned to validate the impact of the latest ingredients that support athletic performance and health," stated Ryan Drexler, CEO and chairman, MusclePharm. "Over the past 18 months we undertook a review of some of our best-selling products – including Assault, Combat Protein and Shred – and made significant improvements. Re-Con is the latest example of this effort.  As a result, I am confident that the thousands of retail outlets around the world, both brick and mortar and online, that carry MusclePharm products will add the newly formulated Re-Con to their line."

After extensive research, the company has reformulated Re-Con to include Groplex and VitaCherry Sport. Currently, Re-Con is the only workout recovery product available that includes these ingredients.

GroPlex, developed by Glanbia, a leading creator of ingredient solutions for the food, beverage and supplement industries, is a unique complex of dairy proteins and peptides that are high in protein but low in fat and carbohydrates. GroPlex has been shown to cause a release of the anabolic or muscle building hormone insulin, which can improve the delivery of nutrients to muscle and activates the muscle growth pathway for muscle synthesis.

VitaCherry, developed in collaboration with Futureceuticals VDF, is a processed whole tart cherry, which has traditionally been used by athletes for recovery and to promote reduction in muscle soreness. VitaCherry Sport is processed in a way that yields higher concentrations of the beneficial nutrients that prevent muscle soreness.

Re-Con was developed for use by all types of athletes – from professionals to weekend warriors. The product's benefits include: reduction of muscle soreness, repair of damaged muscles and replenishment of vital nutrients for the body post-workout.

AANP reminds Americans to be mindful of their sleep

BY Michael Johnsen

AUSTIN, Texas — According to National Sleep Foundation, the most recent findings from its Sleep Health Index found that more than four in 10 Americans reported that their daily activities were significantly impacted by poor or insufficient sleep at least once during the past seven days. Adequate sleep improves memory, strengthens the ability to focus and learn, increases productivity, reduces hunger and boosts the immune system.

"With more than 80 million people suffering from sleep deprivation and another 50-70 million with a sleep disorder, patients need to prioritize quality sleep and seek out their health care provider if they are struggling to sleep," stated Cindy Cooke, president American Association of Nurse Practitioners. "Sleep affects everything from chronic pain, recovery from disease, weight management and the risk of heart disease. As health care professionals who see and treat millions of patients, we recommend establishing a sleep schedule, avoiding nicotine, alcohol and caffeine, getting regular exercise, and taking steps to manage stress," she said.

"Research consistently shows that adequate, quality sleep directly and positively affects mental, physical and emotional well-being", added Max Hirshkowitz, chairman National Sleep Foundation. "NSF's #SleepBetterFeelBetter campaign shines a light on the importance of sleep health toward improved productivity, mood and overall health."

Vizuri Consumer launches topical analgesic for 24-hour arthritis relief

BY Michael Johnsen

BALTIMORE — Vizuri Consumer Healthcare on Tuesday launched PainBloc24, a 24-hour over-the-counter topical pain reliever for arthritis joint pain. PainBloc24 has been clinically shown to help relieve pain with as little as one application per day, the company stated.

“This is a great milestone for our company, and we know the 53 million people who suffer from chronic arthritis pain need a longer-lasting pain reliever," stated Jeremy Puttock, VP Vizuri Consumer Healthcare. "We’re proud to bring a true breakthrough to the market and look forward to expanding distribution in the coming months.”

The patent-pending NeuroMax technology in PainBloc24 delivers the maximum allowable OTC dose of its pain-blocking medicine, capsaicin, to turn off certain nerve fibers that send pain signals to the brain. In a clinical study, 60% of patients reported a reduction in arthritic knee pain for 24 hours following one-to-two daily applications of PainBloc24. In addition, patients who used the product for just seven days continued to experience relief from their arthritis pain for an additional three weeks after the last application.

PainBloc24 is available exclusively online and will be rolled out to food, drug and mass retailers this summer.
