Walgreens unveils newest flagship store – Part 1
NEW YORK — Despite the frigid temps, spirits were high as Walgreens celebrated on Thursday the official grand re-opening of its newest flagship store in New York City’s Union Square.
Walgreens opened in the historic Union Square area in 2001, and the store has now been renovated to feature the company’s new Well Experience format.
The impressive two-story location, which takes up one full city block, has been transformed to meet the unique needs of the neighborhood and to become an ideal destination for health and daily living. The store’s expanded features include the company’s new Well Experience format, which offers new solutions and services, including a new pharmacy design; an Upmarket with chef-rolled sushi, sandwiches, wraps and ready-to-eat cut fruits and vegetables; an expanded beauty and personal care section that includes Boots No7 products; an expansive seasonal department; and an advanced printing and photo lab.

CVS/pharmacy’s clustering initiative seen in Urban store format
NEW YORK — CVS Caremark’s store clustering initiative remains a key focus of its retail business and, to date, there are about 560 Urban Cluster stores in place.
As evidenced by the photos taken at CVS/pharmacy stores at 630 Lexington and 420 5th Ave. in New York City, the Urban Cluster stores are designed around the fact that they are in a dense trade area with limited competition, and are much like a general store with expanded grocery and on-the-go foods. Meanwhile, the company began piloting in 2013 its Suburban Cluster stores. The Suburban Cluster stores integrate pharmacy and MinuteClinic, with an elevated health and beauty assortment.
ShopRite’s focus on health, wellness and beauty
The last few months of 2013 proved to be quite busy for ShopRite. On Nov. 10, 2013, ShopRite’s Parsippany, N.J.-based location celebrated a reopening, which featured more than 24,000 sq. ft of improvements. On the same day, ShopRite celebrated the opening of a new store in Greater Morristown, N.J.
Both locations feature Wellness Centers. At ShopRite of Parsippany, a wellness team is available to work with customers to help make healthy food choices. An onsite registered dietitian and pharmacist can consult personally with customers to assist with shopping for special dietary needs or medical conditions.
At ShopRite of Greater Morristown, shoppers who frequent the Wellness Center will find a fitness center that features yoga, Zumba and other classes, as well as culinary classes, a pharmacy and a Dietitian’s Corner that offers free nutrition services and counseling.
The ShopRite in Greater Morristown also will feature a Village Food Garden with barista-made coffees, hand-made pizzas, pastries, hand-rolled sushi, a juice bar, an oyster bar and other gourmet food options.
