DSNTV: Synergy Medical’s Rinker discusses SynMed Ultra

9/10/2019
In late August, the industry descended on Boston for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Total Store Expo. There, Drug Store News caught up with Mark Rinker, vice president of sales for Synergy Medical. The Quebec-based company, which makes the SynMed Ultra pharmacy automation solution, has been one of Profit magazine’s 500 fastest-growing companies in Canada for the past three years.

The SynMed Ultra works to efficiently produce blister packaging for prescriptions and features sophisticated filtering technology to capture pill dust to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Rinker noted that in addition to popularity among long-term care pharmacies, chains have expressed more interest in the products.

“Independent pharmacies to a certain extent have embraced multidose packaging to differentiate themselves and to create a value-added service that patients appreciate. Regional chains have embraced it for the same reason,” he said. “More pharmacy chains are contemplating blister packaging because they’re seeing some of their best patients being picked off by independent pharmacies that offer the service or other direct to patient services like PillPack,” Rinker said.
