CVS reports increase in same-store sales

WOONSOCKET, R.I. CVS Caremark announced on Thursday that its same-store sales rose 4.9 percent during August.

Pharmacy same-store sales rose 4 percent and were negatively impacted by about 500 basis points due to recent generic introductions. Front-end same-store sales rose 6.8 percent.

For the 34-week period, same-store sales increased 6.1 percent. Meanwhile, pharmacy same-store sales climbed up 6.1 percent, as front-end same-store sales rose 6.3 percent.

During the four-week period ended Aug. 25, CVS opened 15 news stores, closed three locations and relocated 13 other units. The company currently operates 6,192 stores in 40 states and the District of Columbia.
