Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. names 8 new advisors for CDC vaccine panel
After removing all 17 sitting members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices two days ago, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has revealed eight people he has selected to join the ACIP, per an NPR report.
On Wednesday, Kennedy listed the names and short bios of the new advisers who will join the ACIP, at its upcoming meeting in late June.
The new members are Dr. Joseph R. Hibbeln, Martin Kulldorff, Retsef Levi, Dr. Robert Malone, Dr. Cody Meissner, Dr. Michael A. Ross, Dr. James Pagano and Vicky Pebsworth, the report said.
Following the selection of the new members of the ACIP, Bobby Mukkamala, president of the American Medical Association issued the following statement: “The AMA is deeply concerned to learn that new members have already been selected for the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) without transparency and proper vetting to ensure they have the expertise necessary to make vaccine recommendations to protect the health of Americans. We urge the Administration to reconsider the removal of the 17 ACIP members who have deep expertise in vaccines so physicians can continue to have confidence in ACIP’s recommendations, which have for decades helped them make recommendations to patients about vaccination. We will closely monitor the developments of ACIP and encourage the Administration to recommit to maintaining vaccine access for all Americans.”
