LANDOVER, Md. — Supermarket chain Giant Food of Landover, Md., has started a new way for non-profit organizations to use its gift cards to raise money.

Giant-Landover announced the launch of "Ca$h for Causes," whereby non-profits can purchase at least $500 worth of Giant gift cards at a 5% discount and then sell them at face value.

"Ca$h for Causes continues our commitment as the nation's capital grocer to give back to those who seek to improve their community," Giant-Landover manager of public and community relations Jamie Miller said. "Seventy-seven years ago, when the Cohen and Lehrman families collaborated to open the very first supermarket in our nation's capital, the public was at the forefront of their minds. We've inherited a priceless legacy, which we're privileged to build upon each and every day."
