Aetna launches Web site with improved access for pharmacists

7/22/2008

HARTFORD, Conn. Aetna has launched a new Web site that will allow participating network pharmacies to access key formulary, claim and other information online. The site, AetnaPharmacists.com, provides access to drug pricing information, a provider services manual and up-to-date information on whether or not a specific drug is included in the Aetna formulary.

The new Web site provides Aetna’s participating pharmacy providers with quick, convenient access to online tools, industry news and alerts, and important pharmacy resources including:

  • Medicare and commercial preferred drug lists
  • A helpful guide to Aetna’s policies and services, featuring a list of key Aetna pharmacy contacts, eligibility, and billing and claims information
  • A pharmacy profile page that encourages pharmacists to choose how they would like to receive the latest information related to Aetna’s pharmacy network

Pharmacists can access the Web site from www.aetna.com, where they click on the “For Healthcare Professionals” link and then on the “Pharmacy” link. There will be a secure “Log in” box on the right of the pharmacy public home page. To register, the assigned username will always be the pharmacist’s NCPDP number. To get the password, pharmacists can either refer to a postcard that Aetna sent in May or click on the log-in page for assistance, where they will be prompted to change the password upon their first log-in.

“This new tool will help pharmacists quickly access information related to members’ prescriptions and help manage their pharmaceutical needs,” said Joseph Zavalishin, head of Aetna Pharmacy Management Network Management. “It also enables them to receive Aetna information, news, alerts and other communication quicker, which can help simplify daily business activities and make it easier for them to do business with us.”
