Met Gala 2024: Beauty Looks

DSN is breaking down some of the beauty looks from the annual Met Gala.

The first Monday in May is one of the biggest nights in fashion — the annual Met Gala takes place, and this year, attendees brought the drama. 

Titled, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” The 2024 Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City saw some of the biggest names in film and music attend. 

We’re breaking down some of the night’s memorable beauty looks. 

Penelope Cruz

Hair styled by celebrity hairstylist Pablo Iglesias who used color and styling products from Moroccanoil, the copper look was created by celebrity colorist Matt Rez. 

“Penelope wanted a chocolaty copper vibe for a change! She looks beautiful with warm tones. Moroccanoil has the perfect chocolate tones to do the job!” said global celebrity colorist, Matt Rez

“The inspiration behind the look were classic Hollywood movies from the 30s full of glamour in black and white mixed with all the characters from fairy tales, from Sleeping Beauty to Snow White,” said celebrity hairstylist, Pablo Iglesias

Products used to create the look included Moroccanoil’s Professional Hair Color in Rhapsody and the Demi-Permanent Gloss in Calypso. 

Styling products utilized included the brand’s Moisture Repair, Weightless Hydrating Mask and Treatment Light to repair dry ends, and achieve soft texture and shine. Also used were the Root Boost, Volumizing Mousse, Everlasting Curl Titanium Curling Iron, Dry Texture Spray and Luminous Hairspray Extra Strong to define waves and curls and lock in the final hairstyle.

Jennifer Lopez 

Sporting an elegant updo created by Lorenzo Martin, products utilized by the stylists were from Tresemmé. 

Products used included the brand’s Mousse Keratin Smooth Hydrating Hair Treatment on wet roots to protect from heat use. 

To dry the strands before styling Martin used the Shark FlexStyle Sparkle Air Styling and Drying System and gave hair texture with the 1.25” Auto-Wrap Curler Attachment. 

Additional Tresemmé products used to complete the style included the Weightless Silk Serum, Freeze Hold Hairspray, Mega Control Hair Gel and Extra Hold Hair Spray, as well as the Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Styler Hairbrush and Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Teaser Backcombing Hairbrush. 

Sabrina Carpenter 

The singer walked down the carpet with a look inspired by “vibrant and luminous blonde,” created by hair colorist Laurie Heaps and hairstylist Scott King using products from Redken and Dyson. Her nails were created by Zola Ganzorgt utilizing products from OPI. 

Carpenter’s hair color was created using Redken’s Flash Lift Bonder Inside and 20 Volume Developer on the roots. For toning, the Shades EQ Gloss was used in 010VV and 010N, as well as Crystal Clear. 

Styling products used were the Redken Full Volume Mousse, Thermal Spray, Dry Texture Finishing Spray, Root Tease Spray, Brushable Hairspray and Max Hold Hairspray. 

The nail looks were created with the help of OPI’s GelColor Stay Classic Base Coat, GelColor in “It’s a Boy!”, Chrome Effects in “Tin Man Can”, and GelColor Stay in Shiny Top Coat.  

“Sabrina has been wearing a lot of blue lately, which is a great color for her and really enhances her eyes. The black and blue fairytale gown she wore is so elegant and classic. To complement the look, I used OPI “It’s a Boy!” with Chrome Effects in ‘Tin Man Can’ and adorned the nails with rhinestonesm” said Zola Ganzorigt

Cardi B 

Sporting nails created by Coca Michelle, the singer’s look was created utilizing OPI polishes. 

“I went with a simple design to give the color and structure of the nail a moment and an elevated look of a thorn on a rose stem. Since this year’s theme is Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, ‘The Garden of Time’ I was inspired by taking a classic V French and waking it up with a bold color and a unique shape that took over 20 hours to sculpt,” said Coca Michelle

Products used to create the dramatic look included in the OPI GelColor Stay Classic Base Coat, GelColor shades “Spice Up Your Life” and “Samoan Sand” as the base for the V French, the GelColor shades “Is That a Spear In Your Pocket?” and “AmazON…AmazOFF,” to create the V French tip and the GelColor Stay Shiny Top Coat to finish the look. 

Demi Lovato 

Sporting a custom gown by Prabal Gurung, singer Demi Lovato’s was created by celebrity nail artist and OPI global ambassador Natalie Minerva. 

“I wanted to replicate the beautiful embellishments on Demi’s dress that were so mesmerizing onto the nails! I used OPI’s ‘I Cancer-tainly Shine’ as the base color, followed by a white and silver chrome that’s sheer enough to see the sparkle underneath mimicking the fabric of Demi’s dress, followed by hand placed chrome leaflet studs to create a monochromatic floral pattern," said Natalie Minerva

Shades used to create the look included OPI’s GelColor Stay in Classic Base Coat on rounded almond extensions, two coats of GelColor in “I Cancer-tainly Shine” and curing between each layer with Star Light Gel Lamp, a custom mix of white and silver chrome and the GelColor Stay Shiny Top Coat. 

Ariana Grande 

Wearing Loewe, singer Ariana Grande’s beauty look was created by Michael Anthony who utilized products from her own r.e.m. beauty, which is all shoppable at Ulta Beauty. 

Products used include the Sweetener Foundation, Sweetener Concealer, Interstellar Highlighter Topper, Hypernova Satin Matte Blush, Flourishing Lengthening Mascara, Practically Permanent Lip Stain Marker and Dream Lashes. 

Madelyn Cline

Recently named Revlon global brand ambassador Madelyn Cline attended the gala with Tommy Hilfiger with her makeup created by Jen Tioseco. 

“Maddie is wearing a very elegant dress by Tommy Hilfiger and we wanted something soft, fresh and whimsical. We used the Revlon Illuminance Serum Tint and SkinLights Prismatic Highlighter for her complexion and a fairy eye using the white shade in the ColorStay Day To Night Eyeshadow Quad in Moonlit,” said Jen Tioseco

Ashley Graham 

Another face in the Revlon family, model Ashley Graham hosted the Vogue red carpet wearing custom Ludovic de Saint Sernin, with makeup created by Ivan Nunez. 

“The inspiration behind Ashley Graham's makeup look was a collaborative effort between both me and Ashley. We wanted ethereal glowing skin with glossy lips and lids to mimic her striking chainmail dress. We enhanced her natural features with luminescent tones while also adding hints of darkness and edge,” said Nunez.

Allison Williams 

Actress Allison Williams stepped onto the red carpet wearing a Michael Kors dress and matching nails created by celebrity manicurist Pattie Yankee, who used custom impress No Glue nails in the shade “Vanilla Glazed,” with custom floral designs. 

“The imPRESS Premium No Glue Manicure in shade “Vanilla Glazed” was the perfect ethereal backdrop to compliment Allison’s gown and her shimmering, dreamy makeup look. I’m familiar with the adhesion power of imPRESS Manicure, so I knew the nails would hold up the entire night for Allison, including the after party look! After seeing a swatch of Allison’s gown, I knew I wanted to create a design that would flow across her hand. Phoebe Dynevor

The “Bridgerton” star sported custom Victoria Beckham, with a manicure utilizing Kiss Salon X-tend Nails created by celebrity manicurist Mo Qin, and hair styled by celebrity hairstylist David von Cannon who used Hot Tools. 

“We wanted to keep the look very chic but classic with a twist, so we did a soft reverse French manicure with Kiss Salon X-Tend Nails in style Gloria as the base! This shade is a beautiful sheer neutral that completed her overall look,” said Qin.
