Walgreens expanding same-day Rx delivery

The chain is now offering the service seven days a week at almost all of its store locations.

Walgreens is making its same-day prescription delivery more widely available. The chain is now offering the service seven days a week at almost all of its store locations.

“Same day prescription delivery is one more way Walgreens is empowering patients to easily and conveniently manage their health,” John Standley, Walgreens president, said. “We are pleased to make  this service more widely available so that patients can refill and manage prescriptions from the comfort of their own homes and have medications delivered to their doorsteps in a matter of hours.”

If patients are refilling an eligible prescription, they can text “Join Rx” to 21525. Once it is refilled, they can choose same-day delivery as an option before the cutoff time of 4 p.m. The company noted that the service is not available in California, and is not covered by certain health plans. Walgreens also said delivery fees vary by location.

The expansion of same-day prescription delivery comes as Walgreens builds out its convenience offerings, including the addition of same-day delivery for retail products in as little as two hours. That offering was supplemented in June with the expansion of Walgreens’ partnership with Uber to include delivery of retail products via Uber Eats. In February, Walgreens and Instacart announced a partnership bringing Walgreens products to the grocery delivery platform for same-day delivery — supplementing the retailer’s partnerships with Postmates and DoorDash
