Pen Hills’ Community Supermarket reportedly adds Giant Eagle pharmacy

9/21/2018
With an eye on fending off increased competition, Community Supermarket announced plans to open a Giant Eagle pharmacy in its grocery store in Penn Hills, Pa., in October, according to a Tribune-Review report.

“We have a good relationship with Giant Eagle," Howard Rosenberg, owner of the Community Supermarket chain and who also is an independent operator of the Giant Eagle on Allegheny Boulevard in Verona, told the newspaper.

The in-store pharmacy will reportedly employ two pharmacists and four technicians. Giant Eagle is expected to handle the pharmacy side of the business.

“In addition to owning the Verona Giant Eagle, Rosenberg also utilizes Giant Eagle for sourcing many of the products offered in their Community Market locations. This long-standing relationship led to what we believe will be a meaningful new pharmacy service for Penn Hills Community Market customers,” Giant Eagle spokesperson Dick Roberts said in an email to the Tribune-Review. “It’s a way to hopefully do better, to offer this service,” Rosenberg said. “We think it will be a better fit for our customers, and we hope it drives more business.”
