Giant Food Stores customers in select areas may soon get some extra savings.

It was announced that the retailer is piloting a new way to help its shoppers increase their savings via personalized offers on products they already purchase with the new Choice Rewards program.

“Since its launch in 2000, our loyalty program has been an integral component of our business, but we knew there was an opportunity to deepen our connection with families by customizing rewards,” Matt Simon, the chief marketing officer of Giant Food Stores said. “We’re pleased by the early results of our Choice Rewards pilot as customers are excited by all the new rewards plus they love the flexibility of the program.”

Created with today’s families in mind, Choice Rewards leverages smart phone technology, which in return is able to provide the retailer with rewards to participating customers, the Carlisle, PA.-based company said.

“Choice Rewards is the next, easy digital step in delivering a highly engaging and personalized loyalty experience to our customers, further reaffirming our commitment to saving money for families,” Simon said.

Those who participate in the pilot, which is available in select markets, can earn points on qualifying purchases at the rate of one point per every $1 spent. Customers also are able to earn points through targeted bonus earn offers as well, the company said.

Points can be redeemed for discounts on gas or on such offers as converting points to dollars in order to save directly on groceries or obtain discounted or free items.

In addition, customers can view their personalized offers and earnings directly on the Giant Food Stores app, load digital coupons, activate Deli Order Ahead or place an order with Giant Direct.

The Choice Rewards program is expected to roll out to all of the retailer’s locations by the end of the year.
