Safeway to open weight loss clinics in 5 Bay Area stores

10/7/2016

SAN FRANCISCO — Weight loss clinics will soon be coming to several Bay Area Safeway stores. Safeway, alongside Costa Mesa, Calif.-based weight loss clinic chain Lean for Life By Lindora Clinic, announced Friday that Lean for Life by Lindora Clinics will be opening on Oct. 10 at five Safeway stores in Danville, Dublin, Livermore, Menlo Park and San Jose.

The 400- to 500-sq. ft. clinics will be adjacent to Safeway’s in-store pharmacies and will feature clinicians who work one-on-one with patients, as well as Lean for Life food coaches who will show patients how to develop better eating habits and make healthy food choices.

“We’re committed to becoming a health and wellness destination for our customers – and our collaboration with Lean for Life by Lindora Clinic supplies this health-conscious community a resource not previously available in the Bay Area,” Safeway SVP pharmacy, health and wellness Mark Panzer said. “The Lean for Life food coaches will provide a unique, practical service, showing patients how they can apply the principles they learn in the program to make smarter, healthier shopping choices.”

The five Safeway locations will be in addition to Lean for Life by Lindora Clinic’s 35 locations inside Southern California grocery stores. The clinics’ program is built on providing patients tools to lose weight and improve their help. The customized approach can help patients learn how to manage risk factors for Type 2 diabetes, the company said. The program is based on a four-phase approach that allows for rapid weight loss and support for providers and coaches, as well as a maintenance program that encourages long-term success.

“We’re proud to partner with Safeway and expand our clinics into its Bay Area stores to better serve this community, while furthering overall convenience and access to weight loss tools — including our team of medical providers, coaches and nurses,” Lean for Life by Lindora Clinic chief science and programs officer Cynthia Stamper Graff said. “We look forward to providing Northern California with the structure, support and personal connection that works.”

In honor of the openings, Lean for Life is offering patients at the new locations the opportunity to win free in-clinic programs worth more than $1,000. Patients who stop in for a free consultation from Oct. 10-14 will be entered into a daily raffle, with one winner being selected each day.
