McKesson reveals real-time benefit coverage through RxBenefit Clarity
RelayHealth Pharmacy Solutions and CoverMyMeds, part of the McKesson Rx Technology Solutions business, on Thursday introduced RxBenefit Clarity, a decision support solution that can provide precise prescription benefit and prior authorization information across all payers at the point of prescribing. Leveraging the nation’s leading pharmacy network, RxBenefit Clarity delivers one of the most accurate patient pay and real-time benefit information in the prescribing workflow today, McKesson stated.

When writing a prescription, providers strive to make decisions based on unique clinical situations and individual care plans developed in consultation with their patients. Providers face significant obstacles in this process, including a dependency on inaccurate or incomplete drug formularies, patient co-pay information and prior authorization requirements. This lack of insight causes medication fulfillment gaps, which often lead to costly non-adherence—adding up to as much as $280 billion in avoidable costs each year.
Real-Time Prescription Benefit solutions that rely solely on formulary and benefit information to help physicians make a prescribing decision are limited in their effectiveness and accuracy. Additionally, RTPB solutions focused on meeting the needs of one stakeholder may fail to meet the needs of the provider and patient by presenting inaccurate patient cost-share information or overly complex treatment options.
In contrast, RxBC is focused on helping patients get the medication they need to live healthy lives by acquiring real-time patient benefit coverage information and actual out-of-pocket costs directly from the pharmacy where the patient will fill their prescription. RxBenefit Clarity also notifies the provider when a PA is needed to fill a prescription, and gives the prescriber the option to proactively initiate an electronic prior authorization. Accurate patient cost share information and formulary restrictions allow the provider to select the most appropriate therapy for the patient.
NewCrop, a leading electronic prescribing service, will soon make RxBenefit Clarity available to the more than 64,000 providers using the NewCrop platform.

RelayHealth Pharmacy Solutions’ and CoverMyMeds’ combined network includes more than 62,000 pharmacies, 500 EHRs, 700,000 providers and most payers. As a result of their network, RxBenefit Clarity can provide coverage for all payers without requiring payer-by-payer implementation or network alliances.
RxBenefit Clarity can be easily integrated into any EHR through an API, the company noted.
Rexall campaign celebrates Pharmacist Awareness Month
March in the Great White North marks Pharmacist Awareness Month and Toronto-based Rexall is rolling out a campaign to mark the celebration. Through the end of the month, the company is inviting patients to share a positive experience on social media using the #MyRexallPharmacist hashtag.
Patients who share their story are entered for a chance to win an instant $100 gift card, a weekly $500-value prize pack or the grand prize $1000 Rexall gift card.

NCPA Awards recognize 8 independent pharmacies
The National Community Pharmacy Association has honored eight independent pharmacies with its inaugural NCPA Innovation Center Excellence Awards. The Alexandria, Va.-based organization said it created the awards, which are partly sponsored by CoverMyMeds, to recognize pharmacies that have enhanced their spaces to better serve patients and communities.
NCPA said that it received more than 70 submissions for pharmacies seeking recognition in such categories as Best External Remodel, Best Advertising/Marketing Promotion, Best End-Cap, Best Public Event and Best Customer Convenience Improvement.
“The NICE Awards spotlight the best of community pharmacy branding and marketing – the innovations and redesigns that have made promotions more effective and patients’ experiences more rewarding,” said Kurt Proctor, PhD, president of the NCPA Innovation Center. “Small businesses have to be nimble in the competitive marketplace and this year’s eight recipients are a testament to the power of successful reinvention. Congratulations to all of the eight pharmacy honorees on this well-deserved recognition.”
