Koia’s plant-based protein drinks hit Publix shelves

7/30/2018
Plant-based protein drink maker Koia has expanded its distribution. The Los Angeles-based company’s refrigerated protein drinks are now available at 1,200 Publix locations.

“We are so excited that Koia is going to reach more consumers across the country and specifically the Southeast,” said Chris Hunter, co-founder and CEO. “Consumers looking for cleaner protein options shouldn’t have to compromise on taste, excess sugars or artificial ingredients. We are as conscious about what we put into Koia as what we keep out to provide a craveable but healthy beverage that we are proud to bring to Publix’s shoppers.”

The products were first distributed nationally by Whole Foods in 2016 when they hit 3,000 stores. In March, Koia rolled out a redesign of its packaging and standardized nutrition labels. In the natural channel, Koia said it became the most productive refrigerated protein brand within 18 months of launching.

Koia’s dairy-free, soy-free non-GMO drinks come in five varieties — vanilla bean, cold brew coffee, coconut almond, cacao bean and cinnamon horchata. Each contains 18 g of plant protein per 12-oz. bottle. They will retail at Publix for $3.99 per bottle.
