Walgreens piloting MedAvail self-service pharmacy kiosks

7/1/2014
DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens is currently piloting two MedAvail self-service pharmacy kiosks — one located at one of its distribution centers and a second at an Access Health Clinic.

"Our strategy is to provide access and convenience to patients to help them obtain their medications on-site in a timely manner," Walgreens spokesman Jim Cohn told Drug Store News. "Knowing that approximately 30% of the prescriptions written by a prescriber go unfilled, this technology may allow us to begin to address some of these issues by providing another convenient option to have prescriptions filled."

The Motley Fool recently discussed how MedAvail might be a positive disruption in the pharmacy space, serving as a brand extender and reaching into less dense markets.
