Vero Gusto sauces channel the taste of Italy
Vero Gusto is looking to shake up the Italian sauce game.
The Northbrook, Ill.-based company, which stems from the Barilla portfolio, launched four varieties of sauces that it says feature special Italian-grown ingredients that have been harvested at its prime.
Containing signature Italian ingredients, the four varieties include:
- Tomato & Basil, which features Genovese Basil PDO that has protected designation of origin, it is harvested in select areas of Genoa in the soil by the Mediterranean Sea;
- Heritage Marinara, which is made with Italian Datterini tomatoes, comes from the Emilia Romagna and Lombardy regions, and is grown in open fields and always sun-ripened;
- Calabrian Marinara, which has smoky, spicy and fruity Calabrian pepper, and is native to the southern Mediterranean climate of Calabria; and
- Sicilian Herb, which is made with Sicilian oregano, and has an intense and aromatic flavor.
In addition, Vero Gusto crafts its sauces by first sautéing garlic, onion and extra virgin olive oil together to create a balance of flavors, the company said.
“We are always exploring new ways to bring high-quality Italian ingredients and products to people, and Vero Gusto is a perfect example of that commitment to quality and innovation,” Jean-Pierre Comte, the president of Barilla Americas said. “Vero Gusto sauces provide people with a ‘true taste’ of Italy in their own kitchens.”
Each sauce is made with Italy-grown tomatoes and does not contain added water or paste. The products are Non-GMO Project Verified, gluten-free, kosher, and do not have artificial ingredients or preservatives.
Vero Gusto sauces retail for $5.99 each and can be found at Amazon and select coastal retailers. Plans for a gradual national distribution over the next two years include ShopRite, Publix, Safeway/Albertsons, Acme, Kroger, Stop & Shop and Giant, the company said.
