Sandoz launches generic Precedex

PRINCETON, N.J. — Sandoz announced the launch of its dexmedetomidine hydrochloride injection, a generic version of Precedex from Hospira. The drug is used to sedate initially intubated and mechanically ventilated patients during treatment in an intensive care environment, according to the company. It's also used for the sedation of non-intubated patients before and/or during surgical and other procedures.


 


U.S. sales for dexmedetomidine hydrochloride injection were approximately $151 million for the 12 months ending July 2014, according to IMS Health.
