Giant Food to roll out pickup service at 100 locations


Giant Food is looking to join the grocery pickup game.

The Landover, Md.-based retailer announced the launch of its Giant Pickup service, which allows customers to place orders online and pick up them up at their local store without having to exit their vehicle.

Already rolled out at several locations, the retailer expects the service to be available at 100 stores across Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Delaware by the end of the year, the company said.

“Our new Giant Pickup service is a great option for busy shoppers who can plan ahead and pick up all their groceries without ever leaving the car. Whether on the way home from work, heading to a summer BBQ or just getting the weekly grocery shopping done all that much faster, this really is all about giving our shoppers tools to let them shop however they prefer,” Gordon Reid, the president of Giant Food said. “We’re proud to offer this service to help customers save time so they can get back to what matters most.”

When using the service, shoppers can choose a pickup window based on their schedules, which includes same-day pickup in as little as four hours or next-day service.

In addition, Giant Pickup is to accept digital coupons that can be loaded and redeemed online. The service is available on $30 minimum orders with a $2.95 fee.

Participating stores are offering free pick up on the first order for new customers and are to have designated lanes where customers may park while waiting for their orders.
