Recognized as Pharmacy of the Year in 2014, Milwaukee, Wis.-based Hayat Pharmacy is the award’s first-ever repeat winner. Owners Hashim Zaibak and Tamir Kaloti accepted the award during the closing session of McKesson ideaShare on Sept. 16.

“We started our pharmacy with the goal of providing quality healthcare to the traditionally underserved," Zaibak said. “It is a tremendous honor to be recognized for our patient care and deep ties to the community. We understand the importance of focusing on each patient’s individual needs and are committed to enriching communities with excellent, compassionate and affordable care that people deserve,” said Zaibak.

Zaibak and Kaloti, who operate 19 pharmacies in the Milwaukee area, started Hayat Pharmacy to better identify the needs of the diverse community in and around the city. The pharmacy team combines innovative technology solutions and strong community focus to deliver impassioned care designed to address multiple healthcare needs – from point-of-care testing and compliance packaging to custom-fitted durable medical equipment to a robust Med Sync program with thousands of patients enrolled.

"It is a pleasure to recognize the outstanding work and community contributions of Hashim Zaibak, Tamir Kaloti, and their team. During the pandemic, the Hayat team was on the forefront of testing and vaccines, providing more than 40,000 shots to Milwaukee residents - almost 7% of the city's entire population,” said Eyad Farah, president, Health Mart and Health Mart Atlas.

The pharmacy created Hayat Cares community health presentations to educate the local community about the leading health issues that affect patients today, such as diabetes and heart disease. The presentations are often done on-site in various locations including assisted living communities, workplaces, churches and other places of worship.

Hayat Pharmacy was chosen among fellow finalists Christian and Sam Tadrus of Sam’s Health Mart Pharmacy of Moberly, Mo. and Andi and Justin Holmes of Plains Drug in Plains, Mont. All landed in the final judging for exceptional patient care, operational innovation and outstanding contributions to their communities.
