Giant Food updates shelf labels to spotlight minority-owned businesses

12/22/2020

Giant Food is putting a spotlight on minority-owned businesses.

To do just that, the Landover, Md.-based retailer is updating its shelf labels beginning in January to inform shoppers of products offered by women, Black, Asian-Indian, Hispanic, LGBT, Asian-Pacific or veteran-owned businesses.

More than 3,100 products in its 164 stores will feature the updated labels, the company said.

“Giant Food is proud to better highlight our diverse suppliers,” Ira Kress, president of Giant Food said. “We’re committed to making it easier for customers to identify product attributes that are important to them by fostering a diverse and inclusive network of suppliers that reflects the unique backgrounds and experiences of our Giant family, our customers and our communities.”

In addition, those who prefer to purchase their groceries online will be able to view the product labels, as they will be featured on the Giant Food website and mobile app.
