Willy Wonka introduces larger, chewier Nerds candy

GLENDALE, Calif. Nestle’s Willy Wonka Candy Factory division announced Monday that it would introduce a bigger, chewier version of its Nerds candy brand.

Giant Chewy Nerds will include the crunchy Nerds shell and a jelly bean in the center. They will be available in strawberry, grape, watermelon, lemon and orange flavors.

As part of its promotion, Willy Wonka is also letting children and teenagers sing original lyrics about the candy in its Loss for Lyrics video contest. The winner of the contest, which ends Sept. 21, will fly to Los Angeles to record his or her song professionally with Raven-Symone, star of the Disney Channel’s “That’s So Raven.”

Media group runs online campaign for Mars’ Gummi Burst

BOSTON Rolling out is new Gummi Burst chewy Starburst candies, Mars has announced a partnership with Digitas digital content creator to extend its messahe that Gummi Burst individually-wrapped candies are perfect for sharing.

The “Share Something Juicy” campaign created by Digitas shows animated Starburst candies in Web videos YouTube. The videos have already become fodder for video bloggers.

Digitas senior vice president of marketing, Todd Stanley, said, “It really is a fresh look at their digital strategy. It’s targeting a very fickle and hard-to-reach … audience for Starburst.”

Short videos promoting Gummi Burst are currently running on a specially-dedicated Starburst channel on YouTube. Bloggers and home video creators are encouraged to write about and participate in online messaging and discussions.

Cocoa Puffs releases combo flavor—chocolate and vanilla puffs

Cocoa Puffs has created a new flavor, Cocoa Puffs Combos, that combines the original chocolate-flavored cereal puffs with a new vanilla variety.

“Kids love to mix together chocolate and vanilla, two of their favorite flavors,” associate marketing manager for General Mills, Scott Dorman, recently said in a statement to media. “Cocoa Puffs Combos gives kids the perfect combination of flavors they want, and parents will love the nutrition.”

Every serving of Cocoa Puffs Combos contains 12 vitamins and minerals, such as calcium and vitamin D, which are reported to help children in bone development. The new chocolate and vanilla Cocoa Puffs combos also contain about 8 grams of whole grain per serving.

Coca Puffs Combos will be available in stores across the United States beginning this summer.
