Weight Watchers adds to Baked Goods line
JACKSON, Mich. — Weight Watchers' Sweet Baked Goods line will get a new addition to help usher in autumn. Consumers will now be able to indulge in the salted caramel variety, which contains 90 calories.
Salted Caramel joins other Sweet Baked Good flavors, including triple chocolate, peanut butter and mint Chocolate Brownie Bliss, chocolate, lemon, carrot and red velvet creme cakes, chocolate brownie, coffee cake, cookies and muffins. The snacks can be found at national and local grocery stores for a suggested retail price of $3.29.
AP: State Senate refuses initial vote to ban microbeads in cosmetics
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A bill in California that would ban plastic microbeads in soaps and cosmetics was refused by the state Senate, according to an Associated Press report.
The AP reported that while Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara, argued that the bill would level the playing field among manufacturers — some of whom already are phasing out the exfoliating ingredients — AB1699 fell one vote short of the 21 it needed to pass.
The author, Assemblyman Richard Bloom, D-Santa Monica, stated that supporters will try again before the Legislature adjourns for the year, the AP reported.
The bill would prohibit the sale of products containing plastic microbeads starting in 2019. A Senate amendment would allow OTC drugs to contain the microbeads until 2020, the AP reported.
As previously reported by Drug Store News, a similar ban was recently signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, making Illinois the first state in the nation to ban the manufacture and sale of personal care products containing synthetic plastic microbeads.
Derma e names director of education

As the new director of education, she will be responsible for developing and implementing the training strategy, sessions and tools necessary to enhance the knowledge of, and experience with derma e at every level. This position will focus on tailored trainings including in-person, video, webinar and Skype sessions, and consumer events doing in-store demos and skin analysis consultations. Cane also will build key relationships with retailers, in-store personnel and consumers, reinforcing the quality and efficacy of the derma e natural product line.
