H.D. Smith readies for second major storm system projected to hit New Jersey, New York coastline

BY Michael Johnsen

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The New York Metro Division of H. D. Smith Wholesalers on Tuesday announced it has been preparing for the Nor’easter — anticipated to impact the northeastern United States as soon as Wednesday — by following the same emergency preparedness protocols the wholesaler had put into action both before and after Hurricane Sandy.

"Our foremost priority is ensuring that local pharmacies — the first place so many people turn to for medical and emergency supplies — can help patients access the medicines and home health products they need," stated Dale Smith, president and CEO of H. D. Smith.

The New York Metro division prepared for Hurricane Sandy by providing extra deliveries and instructing customers to stock up ahead of the storm in case of supply chain disruptions. After the storm passed, the division was up and running on a generator and filled and delivered orders to hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and independent pharmacy retailers.

"Thanks to proactive planning and preparedness, along with dedicated employees, … we were able to continue to supply vital pharmaceuticals, home health care, durable medical equipment, OTC medications and consumer goods to our many customers in the New York Tri-state area and beyond," added Christian Herrington, corporate VP operations at H. D. Smith.
