Walgreens names SVP pharmaceutical development, market access
DEERFIELD, Ill. Walgreens announced Thursday that Jeffrey Berkowitz, a former SVP at drug maker Merck, has joined the company.
Berkowitz will serve as Walgreens’ SVP pharmaceutical development and market access, responsible for the overall pharmacy contracting strategy for the company, both on the pharmaceutical manufacturing side and on the retail payer side, the drug store chain said. He will report to Walgreens’ pharmacy services president Kermit Crawford.
“As we continue our efforts to transform community pharmacy, Jeff will play a vital role in working with our partners in the pharmaceutical industry, and across the entire healthcare sector, to develop strategies in collaboration with our sales and services organization that will provide better adherence and clinical outcomes for patients,” Crawford said. “In addition, Jeff’s exceptional experience, expertise and track record of growth and success in the pharmaceutical industry will be important to further enhancing our pharmacy, health-and-wellness solutions.”
Prior to joining Walgreens, Berkowitz served as SVP global market access at Merck, part of the Merck global human health leadership team, responsible for all activity related to access, pricing, payer marketing, health outcomes and health technology assessments worldwide.
GSK, Mia Hamm to adults: ‘Give your health a shot’
PHILADELPHIA GlaxoSmithKline has tapped soccer star Mia Hamm for its public health campaign to emphasize the need for adults to make vaccinations part of their overall health-and-wellness goals.
GSK’s Give Your Health a Shot campaign underscores the need for adults to receive vaccinations as a preventative measure to protect their health. The campaign announcement followed the pertussis (whooping cough) outbreak that has affected California.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that adults receive vaccines for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, influenza, human papillomavirus (HPV), pneumonia, meningitis and shingles.
"By working out and eating well, I thought I had checked the boxes for a healthy life. Now I know that vaccines are also important defensive tools to help protect adults from serious diseases," Mia Hamm said. "The recent outbreaks of whooping cough in my home state of California and around the country are a wake-up call for all of us to do our part to help protect ourselves, our families and our community. Check in with your healthcare provider to make sure you are up to date on all of the vaccinations recommended for you."

Lansinoh names new VP marketing
ALEXANDRIA, Va. A maker of breast-feeding products has named Michael Barclay, a former SC Johnson brand manager, as its new VP marketing.
In his new role at Lansinoh, Barclay will coordinate all North American marketing activities while leading the brand marketing, consumer relations and professional relations teams. He will report to Lansinoh North America president Diane Manwaring. Prior to joining Lansinoh, Barclay was the brand manager for SC Johnson’s wax division and category manager for Frito-Lay’s U.K. division.
