Turmeric supplements doing well in specialty outlets

BY Michael Johnsen
MOAB, Utah – Could turmeric be next on VMS best-seller lists in mass outlets? Citing SPINS data, Turmeric is the No. 1 bestselling herb in the nation, noted The Synergy Company in introducing its latest SuperPure Turmeric Extract to specialty outlets on Tuesday.

Turmeric supports normal inflammatory response, healthy cognitive support, and healthy aging.

"Our SuperPure Turmeric Extract captures the complete spectrum of beneficial compounds found within turmeric, not just the curcuminoids," stated Mtichell May, SuperPure creator. "While the rest of the industry has focused on curcuminoids at high percentages, it is clear that these isolated — and harshly extracted — products are leaving out vital and health-boosting phytonutrients from turmeric. Our SuperPure Turmeric embodies our spirit of innovation and commitment to giving our customers the best."

SuperPure Turmeric is made with three different types of certified organic, non-toxic extractions to achieve optimal quantities of curcuminoids, turmerones/essential oils and polysaccharides.

Achieving certified organic status on an herbal extract such as this is a rarity in the industry, May said. It requires organic certification every step along the way, he added — from seed to processing to finished capsule — and is not an easy or inexpensive task. "It was vitally important that we achieve this high level of organic purity, despite the obstacles," he said.

SuperPure Turmeric is the first in a line of Synergy's organic SuperPure extracts that now also includes SuperPure Milk Thistle. The line will continue to expand in 2016, the company noted.

Cardinal Health, Target and Walmart named ‘Top Companies for Executive Women’

BY Michael Johnsen
DUBLIN, Ohio – Cardinal Health, Target and Walmart were all selected as part of the 2016 National Association for Female Executives Top Companies for Executive Women, which recognizes American corporations that have moved women into top executive positions and created a culture that fosters the careers of talented women.

"I am happy to report that female representation in senior management positions continues to inch up at the NAFE Top Companies," stated Betty Spence, NAFE president. "Though progress of women into senior positions has slowed nationally, the 2016 NAFE Top Companies are leading the way in moving women in power positions where they have the influence to innovate and boost profits."

More than half of the companies on the 2016 NAFE Top 60 have at least four women on their boards of directors.

"We are very excited about the continued progress we are making toward gender partnership and leadership equality," commented Mike Kaufmann, chief financial officer at Cardinal Health and executive sponsor of the Women's Initiative Network employee resource group. "We strive to maintain an inclusive culture where employees can bring 100% of themselves to work every day. We are humbled and honored to receive this recognition."

LifeScan pairs latest blood glucose meter to FDA-approved diabetes management app

BY Michael Johnsen
WAYNE, Pa. – LifeScan, a business within the Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Care Companies, on Tuesday announced a strategic collaboration through its affiliate Cilag with WellDoc Corporation to integrate LifeScan's newly launched OneTouch Verio Flex blood glucose monitoring system with WellDoc's BlueStar diabetes management platform and mobile application.

"We are continuously working to empower diabetes patients by developing and integrating innovative technologies that can improve both daily experiences and long-term health," stated Val Asbury, Worldwide President, LifeScan. "This exciting collaboration bridges our strong history serving diabetes patients and their healthcare team with WellDoc's innovative diabetes management platform that has been shown to improve health outcomes. By working together, we look forward to advancing new solutions."

LifeScan's new OneTouch features both built-in Bluetooth Smart Technology and ColorSure technology – making for a simple, accurate and easy-to-use meter that takes the guesswork out of understanding blood sugar test results for people with diabetes. And WellDoc's BlueStar diabetes management platform and mobile application is the first mobile prescription therapy approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Type 2 diabetes.

The integration would provide patients additional smart monitoring tools and real-time motivational, behavioral and educational coaching, which clinical studies have shown improve patient health.

Johnson & Johnson Innovation had participated with other investors in WellDoc's Series B financing. This new relationship exemplifies Johnson & Johnson's cross-sector strategy of collaborating with a wide range of technology companies to create new ways that help people live longer, healthier lives.
