BY Antoinette Alexander

BOSTON Gillette has teamed up with Tiger Woods and EA Sports, a sports interactive entertainment brand, to create co-promotional marketing opportunities that will include a multi-sport gaming tournament where consumers can compete against each other and their sports heroes.

“We’ll be working together to reach consumers with unique programs such as the Gillette EA Sports Champions of Gaming, a global tournament that will offer gamers the opportunity to compete against the best in the world and then take on the Gillette Champions and other sports legends to see if they have what it takes,” stated Peter Clay, vice president of Gillette grooming.

The tournament will officially launch in late October. Participants will have a chance to be named a Global Champion of Gaming. The live global finals will be conducted in Tampa, Fla., in January 2009, with the Global Champions in each gaming category competing against one of the Gillette Champions. This is Gillette’s group of sports superstars that includes Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Derek Jeter. Gamers will be able to play via Xbox 360 Live on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, Nascar 09, Madden NFL 09, NBA Live 09 and EA Sports FIFA Soccer 09.

L’Oreal employees give their time to help beautify playground

BY Jenna Duncan

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. About 100 employees from the Piscataway, N.J., L’Oreal plant spent time outside of work Tuesday. But the group activity was not a vacation day or company picnic—they were volunteering to clean up a playground that was riddled with garbage and weeds.

The cleanup took place at Naomi’s Way, a home for children and their families. The volunteers helped add a slide and benches and tables to the play area. The beautification project cost about $5,000, representatives said.

In addition to cleaning up the play area at Naomi’s Way, the volunteers also organized a carnival-like event at the Sacred Heart School parking lot on Commercial Ave., where they read to and did crafts with children, gave away school supplies and provided 150 bags containing toiletries, pillows and towels to domestic violence victims, and made dolls for youth patients at St. Peter’s University Hospital.

A representative from L’Oreal’s human resources department said that this volunteer project was the first of its kind for the company—and the first time many of L’Oreal’s employees had ever volunteered.
