Target fares well in July

MINNEAPOLIS — Target’s net retail sales and comparable-store sales both realized gains of more than 3% during July, the retailer said.

Target net retail sales increased 3.2% to nearly $5 billion, while comps rose 3.1%. Target chairman, president and CEO Gregg Steinhafel said the company "was pleased" with the comps rise, which was in line with the company’s expectation going into the quarter.

"Guests continue to respond to our innovative merchandising, remodel program and 5% REDcard Rewards, driving healthy increases in traffic and sales in a consumer environment that remains quite challenging," Steinhafel said.

Active Health Foods teams up with UNFI

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Active Health Foods announced that it has reached an agreement with UNFI, a leading independent national distributor of natural, organic and specialty foods and related products — including nutritional supplements, personal care items and organic produce — in the United States.

The company said UNFI will represent and carry Active Health Foods’ portfolio of products. Active Health Foods’ products initially will be targeted in UNFI’s Eastern and Western regions, providing 17,000 customer locations with natural and organic products from 12 distribution centers located across the United States.

"Partnering with UNFI marks a milestone in Active Health Foods’s potential market exposure to the public," Active Health Foods president and CEO Greg Manos said. "We at Active Health Foods look forward to a long, mutually beneficial working relationship with UNFI."

Wellesse kicks off ‘Your Wellpower to Succeed’ sweepstakes

FERNDALE, Wash. — Wellesse on Wednesday announced the launch of the "Your Wellpower to Succeed" sweepstakes, where consumers can enter for a chance to win three grand prizes with a combined worth of $4,500, including a spa retreat for two, one year’s supply of five Wellesse liquid supplements and a choice of a treadmill, elliptical or exercise membership.

"This new online sweepstakes campaign is part of our commitment to be a resource for nutritional supplements, as well as health-and-wellness support because we recognize a little motivation goes a long way in helping our customer’s succeed in their goals for a healthier lifestyle," Wellesse online marketing manager Leslie Ellis said. Consumers may enter for a chance to win one of four ways, plus earn extra entries by sharing on Facebook, retweeting messages on Twitter and commenting on the Vital to Health and Wellness blog.

The sweepstakes launched Aug. 1 and continues through Oct. 31 with a grand-prize drawing each month, as well as weekly drawings.

In related news, Wellesse also is providing healthy living tips in a three part mini-series by partnering with Lifetime TV’s "The Balancing Act," featuring nutritionist expert and dietitian Marie Spano, beginning Aug. 6.
