Study: Independent pharmacies earn high customer satisfaction scores
ALEXANDRIA, Va. Independent pharmacies have garnered the highest customer satisfaction scores among its competitors, according to results of a J.D. Power and Associates study.
The J.D. Power and Associates 2010 national pharmacy study found that Good Neighbor Pharmacy, Health Mart and the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy –– networks of independently owned, locally operated pharmacies –– rated at 869, 856 and 851, respectively, on a 1,000 point scale, while patients said they were dissatisfied with publicly traded pharmacy chains and some mail-order pharmacies.
The National Community Pharmacists Association praised the study results, stating that “independent community pharmacies rely on a business model of answering questions and offering advice to ensure medication adherence is maximized.”
“This survey should encourage all patients and health plan sponsors to give independent community pharmacies another look. We offer superlative customer service, and we’re competitive on price,” said Joseph Harmison, NCPA president and pharmacy owner. “It’s also a reminder that policies that deny patients access to independent pharmacies, such as by mandating the use of mail-order pharmacies, not only eliminate choice but also the vital face-to-face interaction with clinically trained pharmacists.”
Sanofi-Aventis, Paul and Mira Sorvino launch ‘Diabetes Co-Stars’ program
BRIDGEWATER, N.J. Sanofi-Aventis has tapped actors Paul and Mira Sorvino to launch an awareness program aimed to help people living with diabetes and those who support them.
The "Diabetes Co-Stars" program provides family and friends of diabetics with advice on lifestyle choices, healthy cooking, promoting physical activity and treatment options including insulin, Sanofi-Aventis said. DiabetesCoStars.com provides links to the Sanofi-Aventis diabetes social media pages, including Facebook and Twitter.
The website also provides a look into Paul Sorvino’s life with Type 2 diabetes and how he manages his condition. Sorvino was diagnosed in 2006 with the condition, and at the direction of his doctor, he began taking prescription oral diabetes medications, including Sanofi-Aventis’ diabetes drug Lantus. While treatment and lifestyle changes continue to help Sorvino on his diabetes journey, having support from his daughter, Mira, also has helped Sorvino to make the right decisions.
"’Diabetes Co-Stars’ will help inspire people to find support for their diabetes journey," Sorvino said. "After my diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, I was completely overwhelmed. I realized the importance of learning how to manage the condition, and that I don’t have to do it alone. I also worked with my doctor to discuss lifestyle changes and to find a treatment plan that works for me."
Jerry Barnes receives lifetime achievement award from GMDC
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Global Market Development Center last week awarded its 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award to Jerry Barnes at its Health Beauty Wellness Marketing Conference in Orlando, Fla.
GMDC annually bestows this honor on a person who has contributed significantly to the general merchandise and health, beauty and wellness industries, as well as to GMDC through his or her leadership.
“Jerry’s contributions have been very unique, as he served as a key leader as both a member and as a senior manager on our staff,” stated David McConnell, GMDC president. “Jerry had a very successful career inside the industry, which began in the late 1960s when he joined Fleming Foods in Topeka, Kan. In 1982, he left Fleming to go to Carr-Gottstein Foods in Anchorage, Alaska, where he served as corporate VP merchandising and GMDC’s chairman,” McDonnell added. “I think Jerry did his most significant work on behalf of GMDC when, as chairman of the board, he helped facilitate the merger between GMDC and the former National Association of Service Merchandising in 1994. In his many years as a staff member, he has truly served as a catalyst for membership growth and expansion as he’s captured the trust of the membership through his knowledge of the business and passion for GMDC.”
Jerry Barnes has been a regular participant at GMDC Marketing Conferences for more than 20 years and served as chairman of the association in 1994. Since 1996 he has served on the GMDC staff in his role as VP member services.
