Stick Me Designs adds style to glucose meter bags

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Stick Me Designs, an emerging accessory designer of diabetes glucose carrying cases for women, teens and children, announced the launch of their glucose meter bag collection Friday.

“While the medical supply industry is busy working on adding color, convenience and function to their meters, they’ve forgotten the most important aspect of their portability—the carrying case,” stated Rickina Velte, founder of Stick Me Designs. “We’ve taken on the task of infusing design, style and function that adds personality to an everyday necessity for people with diabetes.”

The new diabetes bags offer choices in color, fabrics, design and functionality.

The first collection features four contemporary designs created for the One Touch Ultra glucose meter and other more traditional larger-style testing meters. The bags have elastic placeholders for lancet devices, testing strips and glucose tabs or candy. They also feature interior open and zippered pockets for such everyday essentials as credit cards, identification, money, sanitizing wipes and an outside zipper pocket for other essentials.

Stick Me Designs’ introductory collection also features hand-selected faux suedes, designer upholsteries and cotton fabrics in retro and contemporary styles and colors.

Suggested retail prices will range from $32.99 to $45.99, the company reported.

Large Shoppers Drug Mart store opened in Belleville

BELLEVILLE, Ontario Shoppers Drug Mart opened a new 18,000-square-foot store here Dec. 1, according to a news report in the Belleville Intelligencer published Thursday.

It’s one of the largest Shoppers throughout the chain, the paper reported.

The new store fields a robust grocery department, featuring one of the most expansive food offerings in the chain, and includes an organic food line, Nativa, exclusive to Shoppers.

The new store also features some Shoppers mainstays—a full cosmetic offering, home-healthcare section and local post office.

Rite Aid posts increase in sales for November, Q3

CAMP HILL, Pa. Both November and third-quarter comparable sales were slightly up compared with the year-ago period, Rite Aid reported Thursday.

Rite Aid registered a 0.9 percent same-store sales increase for the five weeks ended Dec. 1, excluding its recently-acquired Brooks and Eckerd operations. Pharmacy same-store sales increased 1.2 percent, which included an approximate 461 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, and front-end same store sales increased 0.3 percent.

Total drug store sales for the five-week period, including the former Brooks and Eckerd stores, increased 50.7 percent to $2.5 billion. Prescription revenue accounted for 67.7 percent of drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue represented approximately 96.1 percent of pharmacy sales.

Same-store sales for the 13-week quarter ended Dec. 1, 2007 increased 0.7 percent over the prior year quarter. Pharmacy same-store sales increased 1.2 percent which included an approximate 431 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions. Front-end same-store sales decreased 0.4 percent.

Total drug store sales for the quarter increased 51.1 percent to $6.5 billion. Prescription revenue accounted for 68.3 percent of total drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue was 96.0 percent of pharmacy sales.
