Rite Aid sponsors sixth annual healthy-skin tour in July

BY Alaric DeArment

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid will offer free informational resources in its stores and online on summer skin care, as well as sponsoring a cross-country tour offering full-body skin cancer screenings, the drug store chain said Wednesday.

Rite Aid is partnering with the Skin Cancer Foundation for the program, which will last through July. A study published in the June edition of the Annals of Internal Medicine indicated that proper sun protection can keep skin looking younger as well as healthier.

"Skin cancer affects 1-in-5 Americans in their lifetime," Rite Aid EVP pharmacy Robert Thompson said. "That’s why Rite Aid is proud to partner with the Skin Cancer Foundation to spread the message on the importance of prevention."

The retail chain and non-profit group have created a take-home "Skin Care" tip book that covers skin care basics such as sunscreen, regimens for morning and night and how to get enough vitamin D without sun exposure. Meanwhile, the sixth annual Road to Healthy Skin Tour will visit stores in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Colorado and California.

Meijer opens two new Ind. stores

BY Alaric DeArment

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer will open two new stores in northern Indiana, the mass merchandise retailer said Wednesday.

Meijer said the stores, in Portage and Warsaw, Ind., would open on Thursday. The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based chain currently operates 32 stores around the state and more than 200 throughout the Midwest. The company said the stores would feature the chain’s free prescription program, whereby it gives select drugs for free to customers with valid prescriptions, including generic versions of the cholesterol drug Lipitor (atorvastatin).

"Our team has worked very hard to get these supercenters ready, and we’re excited to bring the Meijer experience to our neighbors in Portage and Warsaw and the surrounding communities," co-chairman Hank Meijer said. "We feel at home here, and we believe it’s important to continue to focus on the communities where we’re located."
