Snack foods aisle gets a taste of Korea

BY Gina Acosta

LA PALMA, Calif. — As consumer palates grow ever more sophisticated and demand soars for healthier, more innovative snack foods, a leading Asian brand is launching a unique new snack.

Annie Chun's has rolled out a new savory addition to its line of better-for-you Seaweed Crisps: Korean Style BBQ. The company says the healthy, bite-sized snack touts the flavor essence of a traditional Korean barbecue.

"Annie Chun's newest Seaweed Crisp flavor, Korean Style BBQ, brings authentic and adventurous Asian flavors to the forefront of American snacking," said Nayoung Shin, head of corporate marketing CJ Foods. "Through our constant product innovation, we're providing consumers with healthier snack alternatives that are in line with the current trend towards ethnic flavor profiles and the tastes that today's consumers crave."

Annie Chun's Korean Style BBQ Seaweed Crisps offer a combination of sweet, smoky and savory: The crisps are made by layering the brand's Seaweed Snacks on top of hearty and crispy brown rice chips, then oven-baking them to provide a satisfying crunch. At only 80 calories per serving, this new offering is vegan, gluten and cholesterol free with 0g of trans-fat. The Korean Style BBQ flavor joins Annie Chun's range of deliciously crave-worthy Seaweed Crisps flavors, including Original and Gochujang.

Annie Chun's Seaweed Crisps are available at retailers nationwide (MSRP: $3.49).

Gluten-free beer brand Daura adds a shandy

BY Gina Acosta

STAMFORD, Conn. – A leading gluten-free beer brand is expanding its beverage portfolio by adding a little lemonade.

United States Beverage LLC is introducing Daura Shandy to the market. The company says the new shandy is part of a commitment to innovation and research in the development of new products crafted to remove gluten, specifically for celiac and gluten aware consumers.

Instead of the 50%/50% traditional shandy formula, Daura Shandy has a higher percentage of premium Daura lager to reduce the sweetness of the lemons resulting in a refreshing beer perfect for hot days.

Daura Shandy, together with Daura Lager and the also newly introduced Daura Märzen, are available in a 6-Pack at major retailers for an SRP of $9.99.
