SmartSource launches iPad app

NEW YORK — Coupon publisher News America Marketing has launched a free couponing application for the iPad under its SmartSource brand.

The SmartSource Xpress app will give shoppers the ability to easily find and digitally "clip" coupons for products from a wide number of popular household names, the company said. The savings then can be sent to consumers’ registered shopper cards with a tap of the screen and automatically redeemed using Direct2Card technology at participating store checkouts. SmartSource Xpress coupons will be accepted through the SmartSource D2C retailer network, which includes about 4,000 stores, and is expected by News America to expand over the coming year.

"Consumers lives have never been more on the go and shoppers are relying more and more on their mobile devices to help them navigate through their daily tasks," SmartSource iGroup SVP Henri Lellouche said. "SmartSource Xpress is a tool that will help shoppers plan their shopping trips, save them money on the products they use every day from their favorite brands, and make it easy and fun to find and redeem these savings."

The SmartSource Xpress app will be available for download from the iTunes Store in March.

Coupons may offer discounts, but they're also a form of advertising for companies. Whether you clip coupons from the Sunday circulars or print them from Printapons, you'll see ads for hundreds of products in the process

‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ arriving on Blu-ray, DVD this spring

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The latest edition of the "Mission: Impossible" franchise is making its Blu-ray and DVD debut on April 17 from Paramount Home Media Distribution.

"Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol" will be available in a limited-edition three-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, which includes more than two hours of special features. The film also will be available as a two-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and as a single-disc DVD.

Starring Tom Cruise, "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol" follows the story of IMF operative Ethan Hunt (Cruise), who is disavowed, along with the rest of the agency, when the President initiates "Ghost Protocol" after Hunt is blamed for a terrorist bombing. The film also stars Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and more.

Publix leads in customer satisfaction

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Publix was one of the highest-ranked brick-and-mortar retailers in a report released Tuesday by the American Customer Satisfaction Index. While supermarkets overall are up 1.3% to 76, Publix remains the grocer to beat, with a score of 84.

Other highly ranked traditional retailers include Costco with an ACSI score of 83 (+1%) and Sam’s Club at 81 (+4%).

Meanwhile, health and personal care stores retreated for a second year and are the only retail category to lose customer satisfaction ground in 2011. Among the big three chains, Walgreen lost 3% and dropped into a tie with an unchanged Rite Aid at 75. Customer satisfaction with CVS Caremark dwindles to a seven-year low of 73 (-1%), perhaps symptomatic of the company’s cost-cutting in the face of depressed sales, the report said.
