Shakes targeting diabetics a Hunger Smart play

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Abbott last week officially announced the launch of Glucerna Hunger Smart nutrition shakes, pictured here at a central Pennsylvania Wegmans, that specifically targets patients living with diabetes. It’s a testament to the opportunity in serving up products that will appeal to as many as one-third of the population, which happens to be the number of Americans who will be diagnosed with diabetes if current trends continue.

Wellpartner to fulfill OTC prescription orders for FSAStore.com

PORTLAND, Ore. — Wellpartner, a provider of pharmacy distribution services, on Monday announced that the company will fulfill over-the-counter prescription orders placed by FSAStore.com customers.

“Wellpartner will help us continue to deliver a simple and convenient way for our customers to use their FSA,” FSAStore.com president Jeremy Miller said. “This arrangement allows the prescription fulfillment process to be seamless and easy, which is the type of service our customers have come to expect from us.”

As of Jan. 1, changes imposed by the Affordable Care Act included a rule requiring consumers to obtain a prescription for OTC medicines in order to be eligible for reimbursement through a flexible spending account.

Currently, when a consumer purchases an OTC product that requires a prescription, they must mail in a copy of the prescription and wait for approval and processing before receiving reimbursement from their FSA. Under this new arrangement, Wellpartner Pharmacy will secure required prescriptions on behalf of FSAStore.com customers, either directly from the physician or from the customers themselves. Wellpartner’s support of this new FSAStore.com Rx functionality allows the prescription requirement to be satisfied at the point of purchase.

Drew Brees signs on as ‘VapoDad’ for Vicks

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble on Monday announced that NFL quarterback Drew Brees will be the first-ever "VapoDad" representing Vicks VapoRub.

Appearing alongside his son Baylen, Brees will be seen in television and print advertisements for VapoRub this upcoming cold and flu season.

Historically, VapoRub has only featured women as the primary caregiver in its advertisements. With fathers becoming increasingly involved in the upbringing of their children, Vicks felt it was important to feature its first "VapoDad."

"Vicks believes that both mothers and fathers play an equally important role in the health of the family unit," Vicks North America brand manager Andy Cipra said. "Drew Brees is known for his close relationship with his family, which made the decision to make Brees the first VapoDad a natural one."

Drew Brees first worked with the brand with advertisements for Vicks DayQuil and NyQuil. The VapoRub spots will differ by providing a more family-focused message, highlighting the nurturing role parents play in their children’s lives.

"I’m truly honored to become the first-ever Vicks VapoDad," Brees said. "My son Baylen and I had the opportunity to shoot this commercial together, which makes this opportunity that more special for me."
