Sam’s Club to offer skin health screenings

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam’s Club is offering skin health screenings to customers on May 14 as part of Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

Sam’s Club shoppers will be offered skin assessments, which will be conducted by U.S. Wellness, to both members and nonmembers. U.S. Wellness will conduct DermaScan skin tests, which use Type A ultraviolet light to show sun damage that is invisible to the naked human eye. The retailer added that it will offer free DermaScan skin tests to the first 100 participants who sign up in each club.

"May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and according to the American Cancer Society, 1-in-5 Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of their lifetime," said Jill Turner-Mitchael, Sam’s Club health-and-wellness SVP. "Sam’s Club hopes to promote early detection and prevention of skin cancer. By offering free skin health screenings in our pharmacy areas, we can help educate how important it is to protect your skin."

Cottonelle brings back promotion for flushable moist wipes

DALLAS — Cottonelle is bringing back its Get Fresh With a Friend program that allows consumers to get a free tub of the brand’s flushable moist wipes and send one to a friend or family member.

Consumers that visit GetFreshWithAFriend.com can receive a coupon for a free One Touch dispensing tub of Cottonelle flushable moist wipes with a Cottonelle Easy Reach hanger for themselves and a friend by providing their mailing address and their friend’s email address. A 42-count tub of flushable moist wipes carries a suggested retail price of $2.89. The offer is limited to one tub per person with a valid email address and home address, while supplies last.

“We received such an overwhelming response to our initial Get Fresh With a Friend program that we knew we had to satisfy such strong consumer demand by bringing it back in 2011,” said Cherie Kamin, Cottonelle brand manager. “While bathroom habits are not always the most comfortable topic to discuss, Cottonelle flushable moist wipes users are passionate about their love for the fresh clean that they get from using the product. Publix’s Q1 boosts stock price

LAKELAND, Fla. — Strong earnings and sales growth in the first quarter helped drive up Publix’s stock price.

Publix’s sales for the first quarter of 2011 were $6.8 billion, a 4.4% increase from last year’s $6.5 billion. Comparable-store sales for first quarter 2011 increased 2.8%. Net earnings for the quarter were $398.2 million, compared with $364.4 million in 2010, an increase of 9.3%. Earnings per share for the first quarter increased to 51 cents for 2011, up from 47 cents per share in 2010.

Effective May 1, Publix’s stock price increased from $20.90 per share to $21.65 per share, the company reported. Publix stock is not publicly traded and is made available for sale only to current Publix associates and members of its board of directors.

“Although the economy continues to be weak, I’m pleased our strong operating performance resulted in another increase in our stock price,” said Publix CEO Ed Crenshaw. “Our Publix associates continue to make us a leader in our industry.”
