BY DSN STAFF

LEMOYNE, Pa. — An interactive kiosk that allows customers to order prescription glasses and contact lenses online, a special shelf for diabetes products and a new interior design are among the newest features at Rite Aid’s newest version of its Wellness store in Lemoyne, Pa. A path of wooden flooring leads directly to the store’s pharmacy, whose immediate surrounding area has been cleared of merchandise to give it a more open look. The store includes a number of new merchandising features, such as a new-look GNC department and a new smoking-cessation endcap from GlaxoSmithKline.

Uniqlo debuts virtual dressing room

BY DSN STAFF

SAN FRANCISCO — Global clothing retailer Uniqlo opened in early October its first flagship store on the West Coast — an architectural gem in San Francisco’s Union Square area that incorporates sleek design and the latest modern technology.

The 29,000-square-foot store features the global unveiling of Uniqlo’s “Magic Mirror” technology. Developed by printing company Dai Nippon Printing, this “virtual dressing room” allows customers to use the Kinect color-changing engine and half-mirror touch panel technology to instantly switch between different color palettes of clothing. The large, bright color monitor brings to life the product quality and details to make consumers feel like they are actually wearing the real product.

High-beamed ceilings and a large basement-to-roof skylight enable natural sunlight to illuminate the central glass case, housing some of the more than 91 rotating mannequins situated around the store sporting the latest Uniqlo fashions. An LED-illuminated rainbow staircase reflects the colorful diversity of the retailer’s product offerings, while 77 LCD screens along the perimeter of the store feature a rotational mix of the retailer’s marketing campaigns and product promotions.

PAWtizer antibacterial wipes, spray to retail at Giant Eagle

BY Rebecca Haughey

LOS ANGELES – All American Pet Co. announced Tuesday that its innovative branded line of PAWtizer antibacterial wipes and spray will be available on all Giant Eagle supermarket shelves within the next two weeks.

"PAWtizer is a highly effective and safe solution to a serious problem that 45 million American households share… It has been proven that our 76.5 million dogs pick up and innocently transfer our most dangerous diseases to other family members, friends and neighbors," said All American Pet Co. CEO Barry Schwartz. "We know there are as many germs on paws as there are on hands and that is why PAWtizer isn’t something we can do for our dogs, PAWtizer is something everyone must do for their dogs. Keeping pets and their families well is our core business."

Giant Eagle operates 218 supermarkets in western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland and has annual sales in excess of $9 billion — making PAWtizer more readily available to many more dog-owners.

"Supermarkets offer shoppers the convenience and ease of access to tens of thousands of products in just minutes. However, getting those products onto the 36,569 supermarket store shelves can often take years. AAPT said we would take PAWtizer to the Nation’s Retail Shelves — we did! And we will!" said All American Pets Co. president Lisa Bershan.
