Rite Aid continues partnership with Children’s Miracle Network

CAMP HILL, Pa. Rite Aid will kick off its 15th annual national fundraising campaign for Children’s Miracle Network March 29, the retailer announced Tuesday.

During the campaign, which runs through May 16, more than 109,000 associates at Rite Aid stores, distribution centers and corporate offices nationwide will sell $1 paper Miracle Balloons to help raise money for their local children’s hospital.

“One of our core values is that we are a caring neighbor, involved in community activities in meaningful ways,” stated Mary Sammons, Rite Aid chairman and CEO. “I’m so proud of the commitment and dedication Rite Aid associates have to Children’s Miracle Network. Each year they go above and beyond to raise funds for their local children’s hospitals, because they know they’re making a difference, helping to save and improve the lives of millions of children.”

This year’s campaign, “15 Years of Miracles,” is in honor of all of the miracles that have occurred for millions of children and their families, thanks in part to the efforts of Rite Aid associates, suppliers and customers. Since 1994, Rite Aid has raised more than $36 million for 118 pediatric hospitals.

“Children’s Miracle Network has worked very closely with Rite Aid and all of their associates for the past 14 years,” stated Scott Burt, president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network. “They continue to raise an astonishing amount of money that helps save children’s lives. Children’s Miracle Network is proud to have Rite Aid on our team.”

In 2008, Rite Aid associates raised nearly $5 million for Children’s Miracle Network. In addition to selling $1 paper Miracle Balloons, Rite Aid associates host special events to raise funds for the charity including motorcycle rides, comedy shows and bowling tournaments. For example, one of Rite Aid’s store managers in Conway, Pa. last year walked 44 miles in 15 hours, raising more than $4,200 for his local children’s hospital.

At the company’s headquarters in Camp Hill, PA, executives washed employees’ cars and competed in a series of sporting events, raising nearly $200,000 for the local children’s hospital.

WebMD announces strategic relationship with Boots UK to launch new consumer health portal

NEW YORK WebMD Health on Monday announced a long-term strategic relationship with Boots UK Limited, a leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer in the United Kingdom, to jointly develop a consumer health and wellness information portal in England. The new joint offering will leverage WebMD’s online consumer health assets and expertise with Boots’ brand as a leading trusted healthcare source and provider of pharmacy.

“We are excited to be working with Boots UK as an important part of our strategy to expand WebMD’s presence internationally,” stated Wayne Gattinella, CEO and president, WebMD. “Boots is the recognized leader in pharmacy and healthcare in the [United Kingdom]. Together we will build a powerful new health information resource designed to help U.K. consumers lead healthier lives.”

The new web site will leverage WebMD’s technology and expertise in consumer health information services and will include original health news and features, wellness and condition centers and guides, interactive tools and applications, including WebMD’s proprietary symptom checker, health trackers, calculators and health and wellness videos. Boots UK plans to market the new health portal through in-store promotion, links on their current e-commerce site, outreach to their loyal group of affinity customers and promotion in their health and beauty magazine.

The new service is planned to launch in the second half of 2009. WebMD and Boots UK will jointly share in the development costs and benefits of this new site. WebMD will directly manage the sales and revenue operation for the new site.

Take Care Health Systems opens new clinic in Pa.

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. Take Care Health Systems, which is owned by Walgreens, has announced the opening of a new clinic in the Philadelphia market.

With this new clinic opening in Norristown, Pa., there are now 10 clinics operating in the market.

The company currently has a total of 341 clinics in 35 markets throughout 19 states.
