Pro Beauty Tools sinks teeth into ‘Twilight’ limited-edition collection

EL PASO, Texas — Helen of Troy has acquired a license from Summit Entertainment to produce and market an exclusive line of Pro Beauty Tools under the "Twilight Saga" franchise.

The exclusive "Twilight" limited-edition collection by Pro Beauty Tools, set for retail launch this month, coincides with the release of the film, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1." The new collection consists of five styling appliances and a collection of professional brushes.

"Helen of Troy is delighted to be working with Summit Entertainment because both companies are dedicated to the same target audience, young women who demand cutting edge trends with a great flair of style," Helen of Troy chairman and CEO Gerald Rubin said. "There is a lot of synergy between our Pro Beauty Tools brand and ‘The Twilight Saga’ phenomenon. Together, we have the opportunity to bring value-added products to a fan base that is thirsting for more brand extensions."

Pro Beauty Tools products currently is available at Walmart, Target, Walgreens and most fine retailers.

Thandie Newton becomes new face of Olay Total Effects

CINCINNATI — Actress Thandie Newton has added a new role to her resume: spokeswoman.

Newton will serve as the new face of Olay Total Effects in North America, according the brand’s parent company, Procter & Gamble. Newton revealed that she uses Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 daily UV moisturizer, an all-in-one, anti-aging facial moisturizer that fights seven signs of aging in just one product. The moisturizer features antioxidants and vitamins (specifically, niacinamide), which helps improve skin’s moisture barrier and enhances its appearance.

"As an actress and busy mother of two, it’s important for Thandie to keep her skin bright, beautiful, and healthy-looking on and off the big screen without a complicated regimen, which is why she is a perfect fit for Olay. We are thrilled to announce Thandie Newton as the new face of Olay Total Effects," P&G VP North America female beauty Joe Arcuri said.

Supervalu throws in $1 million in support of youth sports

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Supervalu on Tuesday announced its commitment of $1 million to sponsor 1,542 youth sports teams in markets where its banners operate.

“Because diet and exercise are important to well-being, we saw this sponsorship as a complement to our focus on helping our shoppers eat well and a nice way to support stronger — and healthier — neighborhoods," stated Shelly Nelson, Supervalu corporate director of strategic media services.

The sponsorships, which began last spring, have helped to offset the cost of local youth baseball and soccer programs for kids between the ages of 4 years and 10 years. All told, the sponsorships have supported 1,542 teams — 761 baseball teams and 781 soccer teams — enabling more than 20,000 kids with the opportunity to participate in sports.
