President Obama calls for fuel efficiency from best-in-class Safeway DC
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Safeway welcomed President Barack Obama to its Upper Marlboro, Md., distribution center as he called for new fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas standards for medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, the grocer announced Tuesday.
In using the Upper Marlboro distribution center for the backdrop for this announcement, President Obama recognized Safeway’s commitment to operating its business in the most fuel-efficient and environmentally responsible way.
Safeway’s participation in the EPA SmartWay Transport Program as both a carrier and shipping partner helps the company move goods through its supply chain in the cleanest and most efficient way possible, the company stated. In 2013, 99.9% of the truckloads that moved through Safeway’s distribution centers were shipped by SmartWay Transport carriers who have implemented technologies to improve fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Safeway has increased its ton miles per gallon (the amount of fuel needed to transport one ton of material one mile) by nearly 28% since 2006.
Wahl introduces new grooming products
STERLING, Ill. — Wahl recently introduced No-Rinse waterless shampoo and doggie deodorant. The products are designed to make pet bathing easy. No-Rinse was designed for in-between baths, but sales are strong in cold-weather seasons when consumers want to bath their pets but don’t want to take the hose out.
The shampoo’s all-natural, foaming formula allows users to apply and towel dry to remove dirt and debris while providing a natural scent. Doggie deodorant also is an all-natural spray formula that can used directly on the dog or the furniture to remove odors.
Tidy Cats lightens up kitty litter
ST. LOUIS — Lighter-weight cat litters are gaining ground. Purina recently introduced Tidy Cats LightWeight 24/7 Performance, a litter that is at least 50% lighter than traditional scooping cat litter, but has all the benefits of regular litters. A combination of clay and natural lightweight materials makes buying, pouring and storing much easier for pet owners. The product offers continuous odor control, is 99.9% dust free and produces light, tight clumps for easy clean up.
Keith Peterfeso, brand manager for Tidy Cats cat litter, said: “Tidy Cats LightWeight 24/7 Performance offers a solution for anyone who is tired of dealing with the weight of their current cat litter and looking for a lighter option that doesn’t sacrifice performance.” Tidy Cats LightWeight 24/7 Performance will be available nationwide in March in an 8.5 oz.-jug.
