PepsiCo, GNC join forces for Phenom
PURCHASE, N.Y., and PITTSBURGH One of the world’s largest food and beverage businesses is teaming up with a specialty retailer of nutritional products to develop and sell fortified coconut water products.
PepsiCo and GNC said its Phenom brand will launch during second quarter 2011 and exclusively will be sold at GNC stores and GNC.com. The companies added that the line will address the growing demands of health-conscious consumers for natural products that help them with their daily regimen.
“This is the first time GNC has joined forces with a leader in the food and beverage industry to introduce a new line of products, and we are delighted to have PepsiCo as our partner,” said Joe Fortunato, CEO of GNC. “Coconut water has been recognized as one of the fastest-growing categories in the beverage industry, and we believe this joint venture represents an exciting opportunity to launch a fortified and differentiated line of coconut water products. We believe the combination of PepsiCo’s strong capabilities in the global consumer beverage market with GNC’s vitamin and mineral capabilities will uniquely position the Phenom brand of coconut water in the health-and-wellness market.”
‘Tis the season to save on P&G items
CINCINNATI Procter & Gamble on Monday announced that it is adding in-pack coupons from various brands into specially marked products.
With more consumers looking for more bang for their buck this holiday season, P&G said its in-pack coupons can help consumers save on their holiday purchases. By buying such favorite brands as Crest 3D Whitestrips, Duracell, Gain and Mr. Clean through December, consumers can find big savings on other P&G brands. With 12 brands currently available with coupons found inside, savings can add up to $180 when combined, the company said.
In related news, P&G also is mailing special booklets to select savvy shoppers who have subscribed to P&G mailing programs.
Pasta sauce brand gets approval from two health magazines
TIPTON, Pa. La Famiglia DelGrosso pasta sauce has gained recognition from Men’s Health and Women’s Health magazines.
The brand’s sauces were named one of the “125 Best Food for Men” by Men’s Health and also received a “125 Best Packaged Food” award from Women’s Health. Chef John’s tomato basil masterpiece, the Men’s Health winner, is made with whole imported San Marzano plum tomatoes and fragrant basil. One serving of the pasta sauce is only 70 calories and contains 1 g of protein, 8 g of carbs, 2 g of fiber and 4 g of fat.
Meanwhile, the Women’s Health winner, Uncle Joe’s vodka celebration sauce, is made with Uncle Joe’s signature combination of whole, peeled imported Italian plum tomatoes, imported pecorino Romano cheese and a sprinkling of crushed red pepper flakes, which rounds out the flavor with a subtle kick. A one cup serving boasts 90 calories, 6 g of fat (2 g of saturated fat), 8 g of carbs, 430 mg of sodium, 2 g of fiber and 2 g of protein.
