Par ships authorized generic cardiovascular drug

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. — Generic drug maker Par Pharmaceutical Cos. has started shipping an authorized generic version of a heart-disease medication made by AstraZeneca.

Par said it had entered into an agreement with AstraZeneca to supply authorized generic Atacand (candesartan cilexetil) and had begun shipping the drug in the 4 mg, 8 mg, 16 mg and 32 mg strengths. Atacand has annual sales of about $113 million, according to IMS Health, and is used to treat certain kinds of heart failure and high blood pressure in children and adults.

Authorized generics are branded drugs marketed at a discount under their generic names, usually under a deal between the original manufacturer and a third-party company. Novartis generic subsidiary Sandoz announced Wednesday that it had received Food and Drug Administration approval for the generic version of Atacand.

Rolling out globally, Rayito De Sol is currently sold in 15 countries, including Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador and Paraguay, with more to come. Based in Argentina, this family-owned business has been operating for more than 90 years.

The Rayito De Sol product line promises to provide the finest in sunless tanning and creates a sun-kissed glow instantly.

 Rayito De Sol line provides immediate color plus SPF protection. The lotions, gels and spray allow individuals to create a customized level of glow and work with skin’s natural skin color to perfect the skin’s tone and level of desired tan.

Abbott’s ZonePerfect brand debuts Greek yogurt nutrition bars

ABBOTT PARK, Ill. — Abbott’s ZonePerfect brand this week introduced three Greek yogurt flavors to its nutrition bar family — chocolate, vanilla berry and raspberry — expanding the ZonePerfect nutrition bar offering to 27 flavors.

With the popularity of Greek yogurt, ZonePerfect Greek bars give both yogurt and nutrition bar lovers another nutritious snack option. The bars combine Greek yogurt with 12 g of protein and three g of fiber.

ZonePerfect Greek bars are available nationwide in the nutrition aisle in select grocery stores, drug stores and mass merchandisers, and are sold in packs of five. They can also be ordered online at www.AbbottStore.com.

Earlier this year, ZonePerfect launched a Kidz ZonePerfect line and added a new flavor to its Perfectly Simple line: Oatmeal Chocolate Chip.
