Organic baby food brand Sprout unveils new packaging

MONTVALE, N.J. — Popular natural baby brand Sprout Foods has launched clear pouches for its line of organic baby food.

The updated line features existing Sprout Organic Baby Food flavors in a transparent pouch so parents can see what's inside the pouch.

Sprout Foods was the first company to introduce organic baby food in a convenient pouch, which set the stage for the pouch trend back in 2009. Now, the brand is launching eight clear pouches with plans to release 20 pouches by December. By early 2017, Sprout says it will have the most comprehensive line of clear pouches on the market for babies and toddlers.

"Moms want to know what's in their baby's food, and what better way to give them that peace of mind than by actually showing it to them before they purchase it," says Rick Klauser, CEO of Sprout Foods. "Sprout has always been committed to honest transparency in all that we do starting from carefully sourced ingredients, like whole organic fruits and vegetables, to creating innovative clean recipes. We made it our mission to transition all our recipes to clear pouches. We are proud of our existing recipes and have nothing to change."

Consumer demand for more transparency in the food space has been increasing in recent years. As brands are just beginning to respond to this demand, with efforts such as GMO labeling and honest ingredient lists on packaging, Sprout Foods has been ahead of this trend since the company was founded in 2009. In addition to the new clear packaging, Sprout Foods is the only baby food company to pledge the names of their varieties match the primary ingredients in the recipe.

Quaker unveils 3 new limited-edition oatmeal flavors

CHICAGO — After more than a half million submissions from consumers across the country, three new oatmeal flavors from Quaker are hitting the retail shelves.

The Quaker Oats Company has announced the three finalist Instant Oatmeal flavors vying for a $250,000 grand prize in the brand's first-ever Bring Your Best Bowl Contest: Apple Cheddar Rosemary, Lemon Ricotta Pancake, and Vanilla Chai. Now it's up to America to decide which flavor will win.

The three finalist oatmeal flavors are available now in a variety pack at retailers nationwide for consumers to try and rally for the one they like best. Beginning today through Nov. 19, consumers can vote for their favorite flavor at BringYourBestBowl.com or by using the #VoteAppleCheddarRosemary, #VoteLemonRicottaPancake, #VoteVanillaChai hashtags on Twitter. Once votes are in and tallied, the grand prize winner will be revealed and rewarded with $250,000 in February, along with the chance for their oatmeal creation to hit store shelves for a limited time.

"From classic to deliciously quirky, the Bring Your Best Bowl contest encouraged America to whip up some mouth-watering oatmeal combinations," said Tiffani Thiessen, actress, foodie and mom of two, who helped Quaker kick off the contest in New York's Time Square last January. "All three Bring Your Best Bowl finalist flavors prove just how versatile oatmeal can be, and inspire me to keep mixing it up with my oatmeal dishes at home!"  

In addition to Bring Your Best Bowl, Quaker is also transforming the month of October into OATOBER, with a nationwide movement to celebrate the goodness and versatility of oats.

Throughout the month, Quaker is encouraging consumers to think differently about the pantry staple with fun recipes, videos, events, and social content, illustrating how everyone can enjoy Quaker oats in more ways, more often.

Buitoni takes the GMOs out of its refrigerated product portfolio

SOLON, Ohio — Buitoni, a consumables brand known for its refrigerated pasta and sauces, is making a move to no GMO ingredients.

According to Buitoni, the change is the next step in an ongoing journey to offer consumers products that they know and trust. 

"From our heart and home at Casa Buitoni, the Buitoni brand has always strived to bring high quality, delicious pasta to dinner tables," said Erica Starrfield, Buitoni brand manager. "We know that more and more consumers want to understand where their food comes from and how it's made. Our move to no GMO ingredients and shorter, clearer ingredient statements are part of an ongoing effort to create pasta and sauces that families and individuals trust and continue to enjoy."

Buitoni, which is made without artificial colors and flavors, received verification for its "no GMO ingredients" claim from globally trusted third-party verifier SGS. To achieve this, Buitoni sourced and replaced new ingredients for its recipes and conducted an SGS audit to ensure the process – from the sourcing of ingredients through production – is consistent with the "no GMO ingredients" claim.

Additionally, Buitoni packaging will be redesigned to reflect the brand's ingredient changes and will carry a new "no GMO ingredients" logo. The new packaging will include recipe inspirations, as well, to help consumers create a delicious dinner at home.

The renovated line of Buitoni pasta and sauces will be available in the refrigerated section of retailers nationwide this month.
