Oogave organic soda launches all-natural diet line, expands distribution in Super Target Stores

DENVER — Denver-based organic soda company Oogave has begun distribution of its all-natural diet soda line, Loca, through Fresh Market stores and Whole Foods Northern California. The company also continues to expand the distribution of its original Oogave soda line through Super Target stores nationwide.

The bottled line of Oogave sodas is sweetened with agave nectar and contains 100 calories per 12 oz bottle. To reduce the calorie count down to 10 calories, Loca is sweetened with a proprietary blend of agave nectar and stevia. The Loca line is available in the company’s popular flavors of Cola, Root Beer and Ginger Ale, and is packaged in six-packs of 12 oz cans. Loca is currently available in The Fresh Market stores nationwide and in Whole Foods stores in the Northern California region. Select Whole Foods Rocky Mountain region stores are expected to pick up the line in the very near future as well.

Oogave’s President, Gannon Merrell, has confidence Loca will win consumer taste tests against other brands using stevia in the canned, natural diet soda category. Merrell said, "It’s crazy good! Seriously, though, consumers have clearly shown their significant appetite for all-natural diet sodas in cans. We felt there was a void in that market for good-tasting options. That led us to create Loca and we are very excited to share our new line with existing Oogave drinkers, as well as those who are new to the brand."

The main line of Oogave Organic soda, available in bottles, is now being sold in Super Targets nationwide. The progressive retailer selected Oogave to fulfill its desire to offer more natural options to its consumers in the "Grab and Go" section of the store. Oogave bottles are now sporting a brighter, easier-to-see label for cold case locations.

Study finds higher childhood allergy rates in the United States

CHICAGO — Children in the United States are more likely to experience allergies than those in other countries, according to a new study.

The study, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and based on data from the National Survey of Children’s Health, found that children born abroad were less likely to experience pediatric allergies, asthma, hay fever, eczema and food allergies until they moved to the United States, and their odds of developing hay fever and eczema increased after living here for more than 10 years. More than half of all Americans suffer from allergies, compared to just 20% of people in the United Kingdom, while the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand have the highest rates of asthma, and remote areas of Africa and South America have almost no allergies.

"Genetics do play a role in a child’s sensitivity and predisposition to allergies, but when kids are relocated to the U.S., environmental factors are added to the mix," said Brian Rotskoff, an allergy specialist at Chicago-based Clarity Allergy Center. "Repeated exposure to our surroundings and lifestyle changes causes allergy symptoms to emerge."

Allergy triggers in the U.S., according to the study, include seasonal changes in weather and pollen counts; diverse plant life; diets high in processed foods; overuse of antibiotics; environmental pollutants; and high-stress lifestyles.

Sears Holdings award recognizes Supplylogix’s contributions to inventory management

WESTLAKE, Texas — Sears Holdings Corp. has given an award to a healthcare inventory logistics company for results from its pharmacy inventory management and compliance software.

Supplylogix announced Thursday that it was one of a select group of supplier companies that received the Partners in Transformation award at Sears Holdings’ 2013 Vendor Summit earlier this month. The award recognizes support for the retailer’s efforts to transform itself by using its Shop Your Way loyalty program, and is given to less than 0.5% of the more than 30,000 suppliers that work with Sears Holdings.

"The Partners in Transformation award recognizes our top-performing suppliers as true partners that support our transformation in becoming a leader in integrated retail," Sears Holdings chairman and CEO Edward Lampert said. "They provide the quality products, services and experiences that exceed the expectations of our Shop Your Way members and enable us to build successful, meaningful relationships with them. Through our continued collaboration, we will be able to more effectively leverage the breadth of our portfolio and the power of our brands to meet our members’ and customers’ needs."

Supplylogix expressed gratitude for the award.
