our body need over 90 nutrients every day to function well. We need 60 minerals, 16 vitamins, 12 amino acids and 3 essential fatty acids. As we know we are not getting these out of our food – what do we do? We have to take supplements! We must ensure that these supplements are of the best quality. These supplements need to contain minerals, vitamins and antioxidants and should be taken on a regular basis to maintain our optimum health.www.1wallmart.com Avoid synthetic supplements. In fact synthetic supplements can actually have the totally reverse effect on our bodies, i.e. in fact causing us harm! A prime example is d-alpha tocopheryl Vitamin E. When this is shown as dl instead of d – it indicates that it is synthetic. www.cleansemart.com When researchers have used the synthetic form of Vitamin E in clinical trials it has not been found to work and in fact in some cases has caused harm. Look for plant derived nutrients from natural sources. Avoid artificial additives and fillers such as coal tar, artificial colouring, preservatives, sugars and starch.

Diabetic-friendly NuGo Slim bars soon to hit store shelves

BY Michael Johnsen

PITTSBURGH — NuGo Nutrition on Wednesday announced the launch of its diabetic-friendly meal-replacement bar product line called NuGo Slim. The line is being billed as the first almost sugar-free high-protein bar made without maltitol, an artificial sweetener. The 2 g of sweet goodness comes naturally from real dark chocolate, the company stated.

The NuGo Slim bars contain 15 g of protein and have 180 calories and 2.5 g of saturated fat. Chicory root, a natural dietary fiber, adds 9 g of fiber and naturally sweetens the body of the bar.

NuGo Slim is certified gluten-free by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization and OU Kosher-certified by the Orthodox Union. The initial launch includes three flavors: brownie crunch, roasted peanut and raspberry truffle. Suggested retail price will be less than $2.

Such artificial sweeteners as maltitol or other sugar alcohols typically found in low-sugar and sugar-free bars can cause gastric distress, such as bloating, stomach cramps and other pain, the company suggested. Similarly, the NuGo bars do not contain high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils or trans fats.

NuGo Nutrition is officially unveiling the product line at the Natural Products Expo East at the Baltimore Convention Center Sept. 22 to 24.

Tic Tac kicks off annual Shake, Share & Care campaign

BY Allison Cerra

SOMERSET, N.J. — Through its annual campaign, Tic Tac once again is supporting breast cancer awareness and a nonprofit organization that provides free support services to people affected by cancer.

Tic Tac said that its seventh annual Shake, Share & Care campaign marks the brand’s partnership and commitment to breast cancer awareness and nonprofit CancerCare by again making a $100,000 donation to the charity. This year, the campaign will be supported by the Tic Tac Extraordinary Caregiver Contest on the brand’s Facebook page, where consumers can nominate and vote for the most deserving caregivers who have dedicated themselves to those affected by cancer.

"Tic Tac is excited to once again partner with CancerCare to support such a worthwhile cause," said Noah Szporn, Tic Tac category manager for Ferrero U.S.A. "This year’s Shake, Share & Care program not only helps raise awareness about CancerCare’s services, but also shakes things up a bit by recognizing the many deserving caregivers who spend their time helping those affected by cancer."

In line with its support of breast cancer awareness and CancerCare, Tic Tac also is rolling out its limited-edition pink grapefruit flavored mints, which are available for purchase at retailers nationwide.
