A nearly 40-year industry vet, Cardinal’s Tony Caprio to retire at end of year

DUBLIN, Ohio — Cardinal Health on Tuesday announced that Tony Caprio, EVP in the Office of Customer Experience and general manager for the Healthcare IQ business partnership, will retire from the company after nearly 40 years of service to the healthcare community. Caprio will leave his current role at the end of December.

 “We’re grateful to Tony for his years of service, his leadership, his achievement and his friendship,” stated George Barrett, chairman and CEO of Cardinal Health. “Tony’s deep knowledge of and long-term dedication to the healthcare industry are extraordinary, and we are delighted that we will be able to continue to draw on his insights in his consulting role with HCIQ.”

After his retirement from Cardinal Health, Caprio will continue to work with the company in a consulting role, primarily focusing on Healthcare IQ and working closely with its leadership.

Upon Caprio’s retirement, Taylor Smith will transition into the role of SVP enterprise sales in the Office of Customer Experience, where he will have responsibility for leading the Enterprise Sales team and managing the strategic relationship with Healthcare IQ. Smith currently serves as the company’s SVP and general manager of Orthopedic Solutions.

In his role with the Cardinal Health Office of Customer Experience, Caprio oversees the Cardinal Health strategy and integrated offerings to hospitals and Integrated Delivery Networks. Prior to his role in the OCE, Caprio served in a series of increasingly responsible sales positions. He began his 37-year career with Cardinal Health in sales for American Hospital Supply. 

Caprio is a past chairman of the board of CentraState Healthcare System in Freehold, N.J., and was a regional policy board member for the American Hospital Association and a prior trustee for the Council of Governance for the American Hospital Association. Caprio is board-certified in healthcare management and is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives. He previously served on the Robert Wood Johnson Health System Network Board.

Caprio earned a bachelor’s degree in business management and an MBA in finance from the University of Tampa.

BD wins approval for generic, injectable antiemetic

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved the latest drug in BD’s Simplist line, the company said Thursday.

BD announced the approval of ondansetron injection in the 4 mg/2 mL strength, an injectable drug used to prevent nausea and vomiting after surgery. The drug is currently on the FDA’s drug shortage list due to recent increases in demand and supply issues faced by other manufactures, BD said.

"We’re proud to be expanding our BD Simplist products with a drug like ondansetron injection, USP, which is in high demand among clinicians and fills a need for an intervention that can be administered quickly," BD Rx president Mark Sebree said. "As we establish our product line with a third drug approval, we are seeing even further indication of the positive responses to our new BD Simplist prefilled injectables, especially among repeat customers."

BD announced its plan to manufacture generic drugs through its BD Rx division, and its BD Simplist product line currently contains two other products.

Limited-edition Stila Dancing with Stars makeup collection to launch at Ulta Beauty

GLENDALE, Calif. — Slated to be sold exclusively at Ulta Beauty locations beginning in September is a new limited-edition beauty collection by Stila Cosmetics inspired by the makeup used behind the scene on the television show, “Dancing with the Stars.”

The Stila Dancing with the Stars Collection will include:

  • Live. Love Dance. Sets ($39 each):  
Four makeup sets inspired by dance styles, including the samba, tango, freestyle and cha-cha. All sets include one palette with a universally flattering cheek color and seven eye shadow shades. The sets also include Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Illuminating Beauty Balm, a Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner and a deluxe Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick;
  • Powder Blush, in one universal shade ($16 each);
  • Illuminating Powder, an all-over shimmer powder ($16 each);
  • Bronzing Powder ($16 each); and
  • Makeup Bag with Star Mirror ($20 each).

"We are thrilled to be the exclusive retailer for Stila’s new ‘Dancing with the Stars’ collection," stated ULTA SVP merchandising Janet Taake. "With the popularity of both the show and Stila Cosmetics, we expect this to be a highly anticipated product assortment that will be lots of fun for those customers who want to capture the polished, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ look."

The launch will be supported through promotions, including in-store displays at more than 500 ULTA Beauty locations, retail events, public relations and social media activations, ULTA Beauty catalog advertising, and a gift-with-purchase promotion, which will begin Sept. 8 and will run through Sept. 28.
