NACDS issues statement on CMS’ withdrawal of AMP provisions
ALEXANDRIA, Va. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores commended the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Tuesday after the agency proposed a rule that would withdraw two provisions related to pharmacy Medicaid reimbursement.
In a letter to CMS, NACDS said that it believed the average manufacturer price final rule was "fundamentally flawed, and implemented the Medicaid pharmacy reimbursement provisions of the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 in a manner that was inconsistent with congressional intent," the letter stated. "Rather than continuing efforts to implement the flawed AMP final rule, we applaud the agency for moving forward with withdrawing the provisions of the AMP final rule, as well as the multiple-source drug rule."
Federal law defines AMP as “with respect to a covered outpatient drug of a manufacturer for a rebate period, the average price paid to the manufacturer for the drug in the United States by wholesalers for drugs distributed to retail community pharmacies and retail community pharmacies that purchase drugs directly from the manufacturer.” The current AMP policy almost could cause retail pharmacies to lose money on nearly every Medicaid generic prescription they dispense.
Market Street pharmacies roll out $4 Rx, OTC medications program
FRISCO, Texas A local supermarket chain is offering $4 prescription and over-the-counter medications at its pharmacies.
Market Street, which operates under the United Supermarkets banner, is extending its health-and-wellness philosophy just in time for the cough-cold season, the company said. Market Street pharmacies service the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas.
“We consider our DFW guests to be a part of our Market Street family, and, as such, there’s nothing more important to us than their total health and wellness,” said Tim Purser, business director of pharmacy for Market Street’s parent company United Supermarkets. “While we’ve offered programs in the past, the ‘$4 Rx and over-the-counter medications’ initiative is the most comprehensive savings program we have ever offered our pharmacy guests.”
Weight-loss aid Lichi hits Rite Aid, GNC shelves
NEW YORK Bainbridge & Knight recently announced the launch of its weight-loss diet aid Lichi, an herbal dietary supplement containing the “superfruit” lychee.
Lichi is a complete fat-fighting formula of 17 active ingredients, the company stated, including resveratrol, a plant-based substance that combines antioxidant attributes with anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and weight-loss properties, using cinnamon bark extract, cayenne pepper, niacin, L-carnitine and conjugated linoleic acid.
The new weight-loss product will be on the shelves of Rite Aid and GNC beginning in November, the company noted.
The new diet aid retails for a suggested $29.99 for a package of 90 softgels.
