BY Alaric DeArment

NEENAH, Wis. — A company that makes packaging for manufacturers ranging from food companies to drug makers has received more than a dozen awards at a marketing exposition in Chicago.

Menasha Packaging announced that it won 13 Design of the Time Awards at the 2013 Shopper Marketing Expo, including three gold, two silver and eight bronze awards in the drug store, mass-merchandise, specialty and supermarket channels. The DOT Awards recognize creative in-store activation tactics and campaigns.

"We are honored to receive 13 DOT Awards since they recognize in-store solutions’ key role in shopper marketing," Menasha Packaging Dennis Bonn said. "Our team works hard creating innovative, engaging and effective in-store and at-retail displays for our consumer packaged goods and pharmaceutical customers."

The displays that won the gold awards were Kraft S’Mores Half Pallet Display, for Kraft Foods; Cepacol Sensations Launch PDQ Display, for Reckitt Benckiser; and the Sharp 80 Display, for Sharp Electronics. The field included nearly 50 competitors and more than 120 total finalists. Menasha took home the second-highest number of awards of any company.

P&G partners with world champion skier to encourage Americans to power through cold-cough season

BY Rebecca Haughey

CINCINATTI — Procter & Gamble’s DayQuil and NyQuil are partnering with U.S. Alpine skier Ted Ligety this cold-cough-flu season, as he prepares for a chance to compete in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Russia.

This winter Ligety will be spreading the message of using Vicks DayQuil & NyQuil to relieve cold symptoms and "power through anything winter throws at them." The new partnership with Ligety is part of a long-standing Vicks and P&G sponsorship of the Olympics.

“We are excited to be working with world class athlete, Ted Ligety, and while it is obvious he has no time for a sick day in his training, Vicks understands that no American has time for a cold to slow them down, either,” said Dave Tomasi, Vicks North America marketing director. “Harsh winter weather conditions can be brutal for anyone with a cold, and our hope is that all suffering will turn to both DayQuil & NyQuil to  help them fight their worst cold symptoms this season.”

Consumers can visit NyQuil’s Facebook page to follow Ligety as he trains in preparation for the Olympics.

ZzzQuil gives category a boost

BY Michael Johnsen

CINCINNATI — The launch of Procter and Gamble’s ZzzQuil helped to lift sales in the sleep category — both in terms of dollar sales and physical placement. Before ZzzQuil, sleep was typically merchandised near the floor adjacent to internal analgesics. But with ZzzQuil, the entire category was lifted to top-shelf billing. ZzzQuil liquid was up 961.5% to $75 million and ZzzQuil tablets were up 722.1% to $52 million.
