Meissner joins Jones Soda as CEO
SEATTLE Jones Soda is hoping to revitalize its business with the appointment of a new CEO, its third in the past two years.
William Meissner replaced Joth Ricci, who served as Jones Soda CEO for nearly a year. Meissner recently was president of Talking Rain Beverage and previously worked for Fuze Beverages.
Jones Soda recently announced that beverage maker Reed’s was interested in purchasing the company, in addition to another, unnamed potential buyer.
Dasani debuts PlantBottle packaging
ATLANTA Coca-Cola water brand Dasani is rolling out its PlantBottle packaging, a 100% recyclable bottle made of up to 30% plant-based materials.
In line with the lauch, Dasani is promoting the importance of recycling by creating a limited-edition line of green-colored hats that benefit Ocean Conservancy, with the help of PSIMadeThis.com founder and designer Erica Domesek. The hats consist of everyday household items and are available at SatineBoutique.com, just in time for Earth Day.
“Dasani PlantBottle packaging is both made from renewable material and recyclable,” said Abigail Greene, Dasani senior brand manager at Coca-Cola North America. “Erica’s designs will help us spread the word of our West Coast Dasani PlantBottle roll out, and we have committed a substantial charitable donation to Ocean Conservancy to help support clean beaches, lakes and rivers.”
Coca-Cola is the first to market with a recyclable PET plastic bottle made partially from plants.
Kellogg corporate responsibility report shows success of food innovations
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. Food giant Kellogg released its second global corporate responsibility report — a comprehensive accounting of its strategies, key initiatives and future direction in the environment, marketplace, workplace and community — in line with its founder’s birthday.
In addition to decreasing its energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and water use to produce its products, Kellogg has concentrated on nutrition (including malnutrition) and physical fitness over the past 18 months to better reflect its position as a global food company. Some initiatives made by the company included the addition of fiber to many ready-to-eat cereals sold in the United States and Canada, after other product renovations — including reducing sugar and sodium and the removal of trans fats from foods — were set into motion.
“On what would have been our founder’s 150th birthday, Kellogg Company is proud to report on our continuing efforts to further W.K. Kellogg’s legacy of building a stronger business while doing the right thing for the environment and society,” said David Mackay, Kellogg president and CEO.
