Kerr collects food, toys for needy families
RALEIGH, N.C. — Kerr Drug is launching a holiday toy and food drive for families in need, the regional chain said.
Kerr said it was responding to the difficult economy by collecting toys and food items at all its stores around North Carolina.
Collection bins were set up at the front of stores starting on Nov. 20 and will be there until Dec. 21. The Kerr Cares for Kids Foundation will give donated items to charity groups in the state that will then distribute them to needy families.
Supervalu’s Jewel-Osco creates demand around the ‘last shipment’ of Twinkies
ITASCA, Ill. — Fans of "Zombieland" take heart — should the world come to an end, the last Twinkie will be available at a Chicago-area Jewel Osco.
Jewel-Osco, a Supervalu company, on Monday announced that beginning Tuesday morning the retailer will begin selling what are believed to be the last shipments of Hostess products. More than 20,000 boxes of Twinkies will be sold at regular price through select Chicago-area Jewel-Osco stores, the company stated. "Customers looking for Ding Dongs, Zingers and Orange Cupcakes will also be in luck."
As of Tuesday morning, 10-count box Twinkies were being auctioned for as much as $10.
There will be no limit on how many items a customer can buy, Supervalu stated.

Pop Rocks planning array of brand awareness efforts for 2013
ATLANTA — Fizzy popping candy Pop Rocks is boosting awareness of its myriad flavors next year with plans for consumer sampling, promotions, sponsorships and social media activity.
"Consumers are very familiar with our traditional flavors," said Armando Carrillo, VP sales for Pop Rocks. "Through a variety of brand exposure opportunities, consumer awareness of our full line will grow and that will bring new attention and excitement to the category."
In addition to the original cherry flavor, Pop Rocks is also available in Bubble Gum, which transforms into gum; strawberry; tropical punch; watermelon; green apple, a new flavor; blue razz; cotton candy; and three choices of dips, a popping candy with lollipops in sour apple, blue raspberry and sour strawberry.
A press release from the company stated that it’s working on a number of consumer engagement marketing activities, possibly including a Pop Rocks recipe book, a guide to throwing a "pop-rocking party," partnerships with pop rock brands and concert sampling for teens.
