Jewel-Osco stores in Chicagoland celebrate new openings, remodels

ITASCA, Ill. — Jewel-Osco is celebrating this week the grand opening of five new stores and 14 remodels across Chicagoland.

For the new store galas on Tuesday, town officials and community members from each respective neighborhood as well as other Jewel-Osco executives and associates are invited to the event. The company will put their final touches on the new stores to showcase the next generation of the new Jewel-Osco at the celebratory galas that will feature live music, sampling, and other entertainment.

The five new stores created more than 1,500 jobs, and were designed to offer customers a new experience in fresh products, including an expanded variety of the freshest produce and top-quality meat and seafood. The company also debuted across all store locations “Jewel-Osco Signature Items,” showcasing a selection of goods from each fresh department that are specially made fresh every day.

In the 14 remodeled locations, virtually every department received a fresh update. Equipped with new self-service salad bars and a new juice bars, the additional remodel stores will feature the Jewel Signature Items.
 
To honor the community’s contribution to the continued success of the stores, Jewel-Osco will make nearly $40,000 in grant donations to 36 organizations across Chicagoland. The company will recognize local schools, food pantries, and other non-for profit organizations as dedication to each community the stores serve.

Walmart Canada names Delhaize exec president, CEO

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Walmart Canada has appointed an executive from Delhaize Group, Dirk Van den Berghe, as president and CEO, effective Aug. 1.

Van den Berghe, who has 30 years of international business experience, most recently served as CEO of Delhaize’s Belgium and Luxembourg operations. His appointment at Walmart was seen as a way for the discounter to strengthen its grocery business in Canada.  

He succeeds Shelley Broader, who was recently promoted to president and CEO of Wal-Mart's EMEA Region which encompasses its operations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada.

“Under Dirk's leadership, Delhaize has been successful in several countries, and his vast experience will allow us to strengthen our growing food business in Canada and complements our highly successful general merchandise operation,” Broader stated. “One of Walmart's greatest strengths is having exceptional leaders to drive our continued growth, and Dirk is a prime example of this talent.”

Gillette Venus, YouTube star Tessa Violet team up for #InASnap campaign

BOSTON — This summer, Gillette Venus is asking women to embrace their spontaneous side and celebrate all the on-the-go and leg-baring moments this season brings via partnership with video blogger Tessa Violet.

Known for her tongue-in-cheek content style, Violet is inviting women to share their spontaneous ”wish I’d shaved” moments with #InASnap that will inspire a series of music videos based on real submissions.

Now through July, women can share these funny, sometimes even embarrassing moments via the #InASnap hashtag on Twitter. Violet will use her favorites as inspiration to create a series of music videos celebrating spontaneity. These videos, created from women’s real life “wish I’d shaved” moments, will then be published and shared on Violet’s & Gillette Venus’ social channels.

“Some of my favorite memories are a result of impromptu decisions, or last minute nights out,” stated Violet. “I’m so excited to have partnered with Gillette Venus on this program! I can’t wait to hear all the spontaneous adventures that women have experienced where they wish they had shaved. It’s gonna make some really entertaining and unique music videos.”

The #InASnap campaign with Violet celebrates Gillette Venus’ new razor, the Venus Snap with Embrace, which is designed as a solution for “wish I’d shaved” moments. Five blades and a mini-handle are packaged in a compact that tucks into any bag, so women can simply wet the razor to have smooth skin anytime, anywhere, giving them the freedom to take advantage of any and all spontaneous moments.

The #InASnap program and partnership will run from June 20 to July 31.
