Jewel-Osco names Scott Hays VP operations

ITASCA, Ill. — Jewel-Osco has announced that Scott Hays has been named VP operations for the Chicagoland grocery store. 

Most recently a district manager with Albertsons LLC’s Southern division, Hays will lead the operations team to support Jewel-Osco’s marketing and merchandising initiatives, including the company’s upcoming remodels and opening their five newly acquired Dominick’s locations.

“Scott’s years of experience with Albertsons combined with his vast knowledge of the grocery industry will enable him to mentor and educate his team to reach the highest level of excellence,” stated Shane Sampson, Jewel-Osco president. “He empowered stores to set the bar on operating standards for their market areas, illustrating the highest expectations of quality merchandising and continually striving for what is best for our customers and their neighborhoods.”

Hays began his grocery career with Albertson’s, Inc. in 1983 in the Intermountain West division as a grocery clerk. He was promoted to store director, and then held positions of increasing responsibility throughout Albertson’s growing footprint, including district manager, area VP and division VP leading the company’s San Antonio division and played an integral role in their development of South Texas markets. Hays joined Albertson’s LLC in 2006 and spent the last eight years in the Dallas/Fort Worth division.

Epic Pharmacies CEO announces retirement, executive search committee formed

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. — Angelo Voxakis recently announced his retirement after 16 years as president and CEO of Epic Pharmacies, a national network of independently owned pharmacies, effective December 31. An executive search committee has been formed. 

“On behalf of the board and everyone at Epic Pharmacies, I thank Angelo for providing the tremendous leadership and direction that has guided the company to great growth and success,” stated Jeff Sherr, VP Epic Pharmacies board of directors and president of Apple Discount Drugs. Epic Pharmacies has grown from 300 member pharmacies to 1,500 since Voxakis joined the co-op. 

Membership in Epic Pharmacy Network, which provides centralized contracting services, has grown from 280 to 2,200 stores. Voxakis joined Epic Pharmacies in 1999 as a licensed pharmacist and independent pharmacy owner. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Voxakis has served on the Maryland Board of Pharmacy Medication Errors Committee, the Baltimore Metropolitan Pharmacists Association board of directors, and the Maryland Retailers Association board of directors. 

He is a recipient of the Amerisource Family Pharmacy Award, the Seidman Distinguished Achievement Award, the Bowl of Hygeia Award, and the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy’s Key to Pharmacy Hall and Dean’s Hall of Fame for Distinguished Community Pharmacists.

Living Essentials to support Special Operations Warrior Foundation with limited edition 5-hour Energy

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Living Essentials, on Monday announced its support of military causes with the introduction of a new, limited edition cherry flavor of 5-hour Energy. From May 1 through July 31, 2014, Living Essentials will donate five cents from the sale of every specially marked red, white and blue bottle of cherry flavored 5-hour Energy to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports the military’s special operations forces and their families through college scholarships, family services and financial stipends.  

The minimum guaranteed donation is $75,000.

"We are honored that Living Essentials is sharing proceeds from sales of the limited edition cherry flavored 5-hour Energy shot with the SOWF," stated Vice Admiral and Navy SEAL (Ret.) Joe Maguire, president of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. "This donation will go a long way toward supporting the families of America’s special operations troops and our wounded operators."

Since 1980, over 900 Special Operations personnel have lost their lives on operational missions or during intense training programs; and over 1,000 children survive these oft-unsung heroes.

"With over 140 students eligible for college each year, and 650 students in the pipeline for future scholarships, the Warrior Foundation’s financial need is approximately $125 million," Maguire said.

The SOWF has 139 students enrolled in colleges and universities across the country. In 2012, the organization provided $3.9 million in scholarship grants, financial aid and beneficiary support to families of fallen SOF personnel, and to wounded and hospitalized SOF personnel. 

"SOWF is a small organization that does tremendous work for America’s heroes and their families," commented Manoj Bhargava, founder, 5-hour Energy. "This program will not only raise money to SOWF’s efforts, but it will bring to light a cause that deserves much more attention."
